Saul “Canelo” Alvarez addressed questions regarding a recent scuffle involving IBF junior flyweight titlist Ulises “Archi” Solis at the Mexico City press conference for the WBC junior middleweight champion’s upcoming Nov. 26 title defense against Kermit Cintron.
“This [response] is for everyone,” Alvarez said, his words translated from Spanish. “It is the only thing I am going to say. I would not be here if I had something to fear. I would have cancelled everything. I am a young man who has never been involved in scandals or problems. And like I said, I would not be here if I had something to fear."
When subsequently asked about a pending case stemming from the altercation, Alvarez replied, "That is all I can tell you. I have nothing to fear."
On Tuesday, Solis revealed he sustained a broken jaw and broken tooth, which he claimed was a result of a confrontation he had with Alvarez in Guadalajara, Mexico, the hometown of both fighters and the location of their training grounds.
Solis stated that Alvarez accused him of partaking in illicit behavior with Alvarez’s girlfriend, at which point the 154-pounder assailed him with a barrage of punches.
For his part, Alvarez denied that he had attacked Solis, but informed Mexican reporter Sal Rodriguez that one of his brothers had done it instead.
