The boxing world has united in mourning of two of Anthony Joshua’s camp members who died in a car crash in Nigeria yesterday.
Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele were killed when the black Lexus they were traveling in crashed into a stationary lorry.
Joshua was one of five in the Lexus and has been hospitalised to be treated for his injuries at the Duchess International Hospital.
Among the online tributes paid to Joshua’s fallen friends, Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua’s former rival whom he now shares a coaching team with, wrote: “This is an unbelievable loss [Sina] and [Latz] were two incredible people who were not only part of AJ’s team, but also friends! My sincere condolences to their families, loved ones, and everyone who knew them. Anthony Joshua – wishing you a speedy recovery. Stay strong, champion.”
Jake Paul, who was stopped by Joshua in six rounds just two weeks ago, also took to his social media channels to write: “Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident… RIP Sina Ghami and Kevin “Latif / Latz” Ayodele. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends and AJ.”
Another former Joshua opponent, Francis Ngannou, added his condolences.
“Hoping for a speedy recovery for AJ and my sincere condolences to all those who lost life in the today's tragedy in Lagos,” said the former UFC star.
Joshua, a former two-time heavyweight champion last boxed on December 19, defeating Jake Paul in Miami. It looked as though he would box again in February before turning his attention toward Tyson Fury in the summer, but all of that pales into insignificance after what Joshua is going through considering he did not just lose two campmates, but two close friends.
Fury also wrote on his Instagram: “This is so sad, may give them a good bed in heaven.”
