Abel Sanchez, trainer for IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (36-0, 33KOs), predicts a fight with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (48-1-1, 34KOs) would be a very exciting war.

Sanchez expects fireworks on the highest level, and compares Golovkin-Canelo to one of the greatest trilogies of all-time - the three fight war between Mexican rivals Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera.

"Canelo and Golovkin need the fight because at the moment it's the biggest fight in the world that can be made. There is no other fight that generates as much attention as this one. It would give us a war like Barrera against Morales," Sanchez said.

The camps for Golovkin and Canelo have been discussing this fight for most of the year, with a target date planned for September 2017 on Mexican Independence Day weekend.

"It's being negotiated with [Golovkin's promoter] Tom [Loeffler] and Canelo's people. That fight could happen in nine months. The fight with Canelo, I think that it shouldn't be discussed anymore because we already contemplate it in our planning. I'm focused on the March fight," Sanchez said.

In March, Golovkin will make a mandatory defense of his titles against Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29KOs). The fight takes place on March 18 at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Canelo, who holds the WBO world title at 154-pounds, is in talks to potentially face countryman Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at a catch-weight of 165-pounds.

If that fight were to happen, it would go down on May 6th. And if Chavez Jr. pulled off the upset, Sanchez has already stated that he loves that fight.

"The fight [Golovkin-Chavez Jr.] is possible. If Julio had no trouble making 168 pounds in his return fight [two weeks ago], it could encourage [Golovkin's team] that the fight can happen. Personally, it would be the fight of my dreams. I think the styles would fit very well together," Sanchez said.
