This week, former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios could be found training tirelessly as rumors of a March 3rd HBO date continue to circulate.

In an interview with Comcast SportsNet Bay Area at the Undisputed Gym in San Carlos, Calif., unified bantamweight champion Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire was asked about the landscape at 122 and 126 pounds amid his Feb. 4 debut at junior featherweight against Puerto Rico’s Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. for the vacant WBO title.

Negotiations to make a fight between Roman 'Rocky' Martinez of Puerto Rico, and Yuriorkis Gamboa of Cuba, are off. Martinez was not satisfied with the offer he received to face Gamboa on March 3 on HBO in California.

The camp of former champion Roman 'Rocky' Martinez (25-1, 16KOs) are still reviewing a submitted offer from Top Rank, regarding a potential fight with unbeaten Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16KOs) in the month of March. As previously reported, Martinez doesn't like the financial numbers and he may take another path, like a world title eliminator for a shot at the WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner.

Efforts to make a fight between Roman 'Rocky' Martinez (25-1-1, 16 KOs), the former junior lightweight champion of the WBO, and the undefeated Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16KOs) of Cuba, have stalled because the two sides have not been able to agree on the money. If Martinez is unable to reach a deal to face Gamboa, he might face the dangerous Juan Carlos Burgos, who defeated Martinez's rival Luis Cruz.

Two of Cuba's bext, WBA super bantamweight interim-champion Guillermo “The Jackal” Rigondeaux, and the former IBF and WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis “El Ciclon de Guantanamo” Gamboa, teamed up for a training session at The Heavyweight Factory GYM in Hollywood, Fla.

Executives for Top Rank Inc. won’t determine until after incoming HBO Sports president Ken Hershman begins his new job on Monday what they’ll do next with Brandon Rios and Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Sources connected with former champion Yuriorkis Gamboa have reached out to BoxingScene.com to deny published reports regarding a March 2012 catch-weight bout between Gamboa (21-0, 16 KOs) and former Olympian Rocky Juarez (28-9-1, 20 KOs). "The reports are false," the source told BoxingScene. Gamboa is scheduled to return in early 2012, likely as a lightweight, but the opponent and the location are unknown.

Ahmet Oner, CEO of Arena Box Promotions, believes Yuriorkis Gamboa is the next pound-for-pound king. Gamboa (21-0, 16KOs) is making his lightweight debut in 2012, accoring to Oner. The move to lightweight is a two division jump for the 2004 Olympic gold medal winner.

Promoter Ahmet Oner, of Arena Box Promotions, is not concerned with Brandon Rios (29-0, 22KOs) moving up to junior welterweight.
