Abel Sanchez: After Vera, Soro Wants Castano Rematch

Abel Sanchez left for France on Wednesday afternoon. The world class trainer has three fighters in action on Saturday in Marseille. Former title challenger Michel Soro (31-2-1) faces John Vera (18-0) for the interim WBA super welterweight championship while Arsen Goulamirian (22-0) takes on Ryad Merhy (24-0) for the vacant WBA cruiserweight title and Louis Toutin (9-0) goes up against Bernard Donfack (23-17-4) in a super middleweight bout.

Junior middleweight contender Michel Soro returned to the win column Saturday night, stopping Ivan Montero in the third round at La Palestre in Le Cannet, France. Soro (31-2-1, 21 knockouts) was on the attack from the opening bell, forcing Montero to fight off his back foot. Michel, who is now being trained by Abel Sanchez, stepped up his aggression in the third round. The tactic worked as a left-right from Soro dropped Montero to one knee, where he remained as referee Stephane Nicolo counted him out at 1:53.

Brian Castano kept his undefeated record intact with a twelve round split decision win over Michel Soro to retain the interim-WBA world junior middleweight title at the Casino d'Evian in Evian les Bains, France. The scores were 115-113, 115-113 for Castano and 116-112 for Soro.

Unbeaten Brian Castano will face his toughest challenge to date as a pro tonight, as he squares off against contender Michel Soro. Castano will defend his interim WBA World junior middleweight title in a 12 round bout at the Casino d'Evian in Evian les Bains, France. Castano (13-0, with 10 KOs) won the interim WBA title in his last bout on November 26, surviving a second round knockdown to knock out Emmanuel de Jesus in round six. The 27-year-old from Buenos Aires, Argentina, has nowhere near fought the level of opposition Soro has fought, yet is the mandatory challenger for the WBA title.
