Ali (don't dare say he was just athletic )
Louis, though defensively lacking at times, an offensive genius
Ezzard Charles
Michael Spinks
Larry Holmes, esp later in his career he had a lot of ring savvy
Joe Frazier - incredible offense and headmovement. he made you miss by inches with ease and did it for 12 rounds. FAR more functional than Tysons showy headmovement. Frazier was an inside fighting monster.Last edited by them_apples; 06-04-2019, 08:40 PM.

So there's two people you got rolling with you. Your mom, and Safe Space.
Who would win in a fight, your mom or Safe Space? That kid cries over split milk. I really wonder what he's doing here.

To me, "Skill" would mean knowing your craft and not just relying on a good chin and one punch (Wilder) or bob and weave and then left hook (Frazier). Was Larry Holmes skilled or did he just have that good, long jab? I wouldn't argue that Frazier or Larry might belong on the list, though.
I'd rate early Tyson highly, because he watched all the boxing movies, learned from them, and knew how to take out guys bigger, shorter or taller. Although he did go the distance with Quick Tillis.
Likewise, Ali could slip a punch with head movement, which is skillful, but also had an array of styles to use as needed. You might not "buy" all of what he was saying, like inventing the "anchor punch" on Liston, but he knew when to use his legs, and how to vary his attack. That he came back to defeat Frazier twice, invented the rope-a-dope, and dealt with so many different styles showed skill. I'm sure Dundee gave him a lot of good advice on the different types of techniques to use.
It's unfortunate that some of the older fighters can only be seen on sometimes bad quality old films. You really have to be a keen-eyed aficionado to see how much they embodied "the sweet science," and knew how to handle themselves and make very few mistakes. Sometimes there's skill in being a one-dimensional fighter but knowing how to be defensive, wait for the opening, set a trap, and then land that punch that the opponent was sure he could watch out for and avoid.

My wife gets around! Let me tell ya!!! I saw a beauty at the used car lot, looking at the interior I found my wife's shawl!
My therapist, he don't respect me, I tell him my wife ran out on me, my kid is strung out and I lost my job, he goes "Ha! and you think you have problems?"
Then he tells my wife and I we ought to get out more, see more people....Now well never see each other!
My wife... she wants to play hide and seek, that was ten years ago I still haven't found her.
I found out it was bring your father to school day for my kid he asks me if I mind if he tells the class I died.
I tell ya I Just can't win! can't get no respect! i won the jackpot in vegas and my brother in law says "wait I see whats wrong with the machine!"
