Religious people aren't stupid, because they actually believe there is a god. So why wouldn't they thank him? It's only natural.

Don't avoid the question. If we thank god for keeping those things away, do we blame him when we get those exact same bad things?

God doesnt cause bad things to happen, bad things happen because its the nature of this world. That said, theologically speaking, we are to thank God for everything, even trials and tribulations. It is through the fire of trials and tribulations that our faith and character is strengthed. The refiners fire. As 'annoying' as Robert Guerrero was before the mayweather fight, thanking God for this and that, he also did give thanks to God after the defeat. I have to give it to him on that one.

Is this then part where we turn this into another circle jerk on arguing about whether or not God exists? If so, count me out.

God is omnipotent and all knowing right? So he created everything in the universe, including evil. So he is responsible for all the good AND all the evil in the world.

He is responsible for Mother Teresa and Hitler.....way to go!

And that goes for people who recover from serious illness. They believe God is behind the doctors and scientists who work and develop cures. They think God is seen through the good that people do.

                  Its called faith.
Its plain ignorant to call religious people stupid and idiots when you yourself dont understand how religious faith works.

I dont share their faith, but i wouldnt throw stones if i lived in a glass house.

Way to gloss over his other qualities/ characteristics, trying to paint him into a corner with a straw man.

He is also just, just in allowing his creation to make its own choices, and not making the choices for them. It is from our choices with which evil originates and thrives from.

Not a straw man at all, it's a simple logical explanation for the ridiculousness that the concept of god truly is.

God knows everything, he knows what is going to happen before it happens. He CREATED us knowing we would sin and created evil in the process.

He condemned billions of people to a torturous inferno, before they were even born.

The argument of free will doesn't hold up.

God created us, then knew we were going to sin. Then sent himself, to prtect us and save us, from himself.

                      Absurd.
