Why, you ask? At this moment Arturo Gatti is embroilled in a lawsuit over the weight issue. He had a habit of pumping up his muscles, then dehydrating to make weight. Apparently one of his victims is suing him for it. If these lawsuits continue sooner or later the trainers will get implicated. Buddy McGrit ought to be ashamed of himself for allowing Gatti to dehydrate 20 pounds to make weight. If Gatti died in the ring, guess who will get blamed? Admittedly Gatti is a particularly extreme case of the ******ity of modern training, however most of the deaths in boxing are a result of dehydration. And the fact is these kids wouldn't have to resort to dehydrating themselves if they weren't pumping iron. In every other sport dehydration is considered to be dangerous, in boxing it is considered to be normal!

Anybody bigger than you? Concentrate on defensive drills and sooner or later you will learn how to neutralize the size advantage. It is really not all that hard to learn. If you have any athletic talent at all, you will learn.

I waited 2 months but had been boxing in my basement at home about 1 yr and didn't have many bad habits to correct. I haven't fought in about nine years and I was 21-5, but they weren't alot of fights in my area so that was spread out over 5 yrs or so.

Man do you really hear yourself? Liquid levels having to do with lifting weights!!?? WTF??!! Sodium intake, calorie intake, fats (mono, polyunsaturated and saturated), protein, cholesterol, carbohydrates, transfatty acids are the cluprits..... Have you ever heard of them? You actually lose weight faster with weight lifting than with cardio. "What the hell is he talking about", i'm sure that's what you're thinking. You really need to read a book or something, you own judgement is very inaccurate. I'm not about to school you with a 5 page scientific explanation of why what I said is true, but my friend you are very wrong.

good to see you in these forums again. Dozer. lol Potatoes, as you can see is still in la la land with these weight lifting myths. They have really been planted deep in his skull. He truly wants to claim he quit training "assuming he ever trained" because of weightlifting. I have argued the dehydration issue with him before. Didn't get anywhere if you sound like you have a bit of knowledge regarding the subject he dissapears from the thread, Or calls you a nerdy lil boy or keyboard warrior and dismisses the subject all together. In his world suplementing your power, speed and a agility is harmfull for a fighter. That on top of the fact he can not distinguish the difference between bodybuilding and strength training.
I think he quit training "provided he ever actually trained" because the most novice of his guys recognized him as being confused. "for lack of a better word" And that his training ideas where extinct, and proven to be completely off target for an effective combative athlete. Obsolete

Explain that to HBO when they post the fight day weights which are almost always 10 or 15 pounds higher than the previous day. By the way, do you have any idea what happens the day before the fight?

We all know about the weight problems of modern fighters. No one is arguing that with you. We're calling you an ignoramus because you claim that weight training is the cause of fighters "having to lose 20 lbs," when it's evident to everybody else that this has nothing to do with it. One of the biggest reason the extreme weight loss phenomenon has evolved, is day before weigh ins. I think everybody but you have caught on to that already.

The other factor is that fighters will basically do anything to get an advantage, like Gatti draining to jr. welterweight, when he should have been fighting jr. middle. How is that because of weight training? Are the weights putting a gun to his head, forcing him to drop to a division he's too big for? The reason Gatti needs to frop 20 lbs. for a jr. welter fight is SIMPLY that he should be fighting at welter or jr. middle, like other guys his size.

I swear you are like a broken record. Its always the same crap pile coming from you.
"the fighters dont fight as long as they used to"
                      "I read Joe Fraziers book"
                      "back in the 70's............."
and then and this is my favorite " HBO weigh ins vs. acutall fight weight"
all of this means weight lifting is bad
