Seriously, It's the only piece of literature he has to reference his advice to.

This thread is ****ing ******. THe reason why HW's today have no stamina after the "6th round" is because they are 245 ATHLETES, not boxers. THey are all steroid monkeys and they train a certain way -- for power. It has nothing to do with just weight lifting.

There is a general rule in life any time you incorporate the words all or every in connection with humans and there particular traits the statement is 99.9% of the time FALSE
        Do some research then comment.

The reason 245lbs athletes are tired by the sixth round is because they train for shorter intervals of exertion, not because they train for power. Most other athletes are active for a longer period of time than a major pro boxing match(48 total minutes), but the movement of the arms actually eat up more oxygen than the movement of the legs, few people realize that. I know what your're thinking but the legs are larger muscles, yeah but your arm, shoulders, and torso are right there on the same plane as your heart and lungs. Truthfully scientist aren't actually sure why, they theorize, but test have shown more oxygen is consumed or an arm ergometer, and a leg ergometer.

I myself had to realize that I was no longer training for football and needed to train accordingly. Power is still a mainstay in my routine but I realize that my energy output is different for boxing than football. Football is all out for an average of 4 seconds then 45 seconds of rest. Boxing depending of the fighters (Tua vs Ibeabuchi) can be a punch fest from beginning to end. 3 minutes all out 1 minute of rest x 12, and if you aren't training at high enough intensity you cardio program won't prepare you for the high intensity exertion of fighting.

I run 4 miles ever other day because my body tell me I can't do it more frequently, i'm 230lbs, and my knees and shins suffer gereatly. Yet at 3 3/4 miles I sprint all out as if my life depended on it regardless of how much energy I feel I have left. Why? Because my life will depend on it in the ring against monsters the likes of Peter,Klitchko, and Valuev.

Bottom line I have learned myself and balanced all apsect of training, power-endurance is the key word, not simply regular mundane endurance.

Nice post had no idea where the o2 went. I agree as you know with the balanced training for speed, power, endurance and strength. It's a whole different world this fight game. Maybe why I love it so.

Boxers started pumping iron in the 1970's. After 30 years of weightlifting there is no proof that they are fitter or stronger. All we hear is claims, but not a shred of evidence. What the evidence clearly shows is that most of them are unable to fight 12 hard rounds. That is why you hear guys like Manny Steward saying on HBO that it is normal for boxers to take a round off. What he doesn't mention that taking a round off did not become come until the 1970's. But of course that is just a coincidence!
