  • Why do pro boxers fight in a super wide stance?

Fundamentally I was taught to keep my feet under the shoulders. I have issues of getting wide too, but I’m in the process of fixing this. However watching pro boxers fight they have their feet super wide, way outside of their shoulders. What is the point in this? Is there an advantage?

My thinking is that you can potentially generate a lot more torque with a wider base.

They always told me that I had a wide stance. It's just how it happened to be. ........Rockin'

Once you've learned, and you've covered everything, you can box in an unorthodox way, as long as you have good fundamentals and technique to fall back on, but bear in mind that in boxing, professional fighters are sometimes trying to get their lead foot outside the opponent's lead foot.

Most seasoned boxers will slightly vary their stance depending what’s going on.

Typically a wider stance means it is harder to get knocked down, but reduces your mobility and arguably your power.

              Because it feels comfortable

imo it will be personal preference to each individual fighter on how they feel comfortable with their balance in accordance with what they are trying to do. Its why you see fighters have different stance when they fight different ways, where someone who stands teh same way usually fights the same way.,
