That’s all gym work man. It doesn’t come from anywhere else than just training in the gym.
I honestly don’t know what shoulder stamina is? If his shoulders are getting tired it’s just because he’s never trained before. He’s new to boxing. Give it time.
Just make sure he’s running in the morning and let the coach take care of everything in the gym.
like is said before, the coach expects most of his fitness to be done on his own time because he doesn't have the time in the two 1 hour weekly sessions.
If he's lucky he gets 3 rounds sparring a week (not three rounds in a row either, generally) and at most, 4 rounds on the pads a week at his gym. So, not enough.
He has been at the gym for 3 years training this way. So not that new to boxing.
Are you seriously saying that's enough gym work a week?Last edited by Usedtobox; 07-26-2020, 08:27 PM.Comment

He trains 2x 1 hour gym session a week. That is not enough cardio and strength work to get fit enough for a fight.

And if your boy needs improvement in his shoulders, 2-3 rounds a day on the speed bag will help with that..…..Rockin'Last edited by Rockin'; 07-26-2020, 09:04 PM.Comment

I can tell you for certain that most of the fighters that he will face spar daily and train 5x2 hours per session/week. What if he came up against a Kronk fighter. (I know that the gym has closed) He'd be blown out of the water. The other inner city gyms don't funk around either and he will certainly encounter one of those fighters in a tournament. I understand that you are trying to look out for your boy the best that you can. But soon your boy will be in the A class/open division. If you do not prepare him for this just know that the inner city fighters arrive well prepared and are ready to throw down hard. This is boxing, and while I understand you trying to protect your boy, just know this. It's boxing and it simply is what it is.

That's why I have to train my Son at home or he would get decimated.
There is no way I can hope the two hours a week at his gym will be enough training because it's nowhere near enough.
I try and train him 3 or 4 times a week on top of his gym time.
Thanks for the advice with the speed bag, we will start doing that more often.Comment

One thing that I did was to get 2 lb weights (maybe 1 lb weights with his age and size), I'd put my arms straight out (infront of me) and turn small tight circles with them. When he gets tired than just put them out like he is making himself a cross and continue with the tight circles. But do not drop the arms. If he gets tired than change position of arms or the direction that he is turning the circles. Do this for 3 rounds, with the minute rest in between. But once that bell sounds he starts the circles, in either direction, and he doesn't put his arms down until the bell sounds ending the round...….Rockin'Comment
