like is said before, the coach expects most of his fitness to be done on his own time because he doesn't have the time in the two 1 hour weekly sessions.
If he's lucky he gets 3 rounds sparring a week (not three rounds in a row either, generally) and at most, 4 rounds on the pads a week at his gym. So, not enough.

He has been at the gym for 3 years training this way. So not that new to boxing.

Are you seriously saying that's enough gym work a week?
Yea bro, I don't know what kind of gym you're going to but there's no way in hell I'd let one of my fighters fight if he's only at the gym 2 times a week. I'd also never let the parents of a kid train him at home. You'd undo so many things I was teaching him.

Sounds like you need to find a new gym.

I will start him swimming after his fight.
His eating is really good. That's one thing i don't have to worry about.

Thanks for your input, really appreciated.

You've gave me no useful info, only criticism.
You don't even read the thread properly.

If you have nothing positive to say, maybe don't say anything.
Everyone else has managed to do that.

You've not been helpful at all. I won't be listening to anything you have to say.

          You're getting the 100% truth, that's all.

If your kid or you wants him to fight these are the ONLY two things that he needs to be doing.

A - Morning Roadwork every morning.
B - Go to a real boxing gym for two hours, 5 days a week in the evening.

That's it. There's ZERO compromising here. None...

Just make sure he has strong legs. Ive gone through 3 1st fights with with my boys and have 1 more in a few years. Match him properly.
If u guys arent ready dont force him.

I shouldve been more clear though about checking his wind.

When my boys do 3min sprints they do .56 miles & alternate mitts or heavy bag 12×3. My 13 & 14yo are freshmen Varsity athletes. They run about 24+ miles a week up hills, on top of bag, mitt work, & lots of burpees. They train like 3hrs a day.

              That's very helpful. Thank you.

We are going to change gyms.
Tell me what you think about this?

My son does about 3 rounds of sparring a week but there is no one his age or weight at the gym so he has to spar 17 and 18 year olds that are up to 30kgs heavier than him. Bearing in mind he has just turned 12.
This has been happening for the last year at least.
Almost every sparring session at the end he is in tears because these other fighters and not holding back enough.

On Tuesday this happened again and my son was in tears at the end. He was sparring a 17 year old 15 kgs heavier. Looks like he has bruised ribs.

I told the coach what happened who was not there at the time it was the second coach taking the sparring.
He said "i'm not making excuses but your son hits hard", the other 17 year old kid must have been trying to keep your son off him.
That pissed me off almost blaming my 12 year old son.

The next day i spoke to the coach who was taking the sparring session and he said "your son hits like a 17 year old and its a tough game".
I was pretty mad at this because my son is 50 kgs and clearly does not hit anywhere near like a 17 year old. He is 12.

I am worried about the safety of my son now and have been for a while.
I will be leaving now because I fear for my sons safety.

My question is, am i being too soft? Is this normal? and what would you guys do in this situation?

The thing that really annoyed me was my son is getting some of the blame for getting beat up in sparring by guys who are almost men who are more experienced and heavier.

You are right, we do need to move gyms. There are no gyms that do more than 3 days a week where i'm from.

                Apoligies for being frosty before.

It’s all good. I train all kinds of ages. It’s all the same training.

What do you think about the sparring that my son is getting? Would that be considered Ok in your gym?
Getting beat up with 17 and 18 year olds seems insane to me.

If he's sparring Kids his size and if they're experienced but working with him its fine. If they're loading up and trying to Hurt him its BS
