i like your post rockin'. a fighter, of any trade, should have the virtues enough to know how to avoid fights, let the talkers talk, etc.

it's only when you have something to prove to yourself that you fight unnessecarily and act like a badass.

          talkin' loud, saying nothin'.

good post as well. i agree with what most people have said. street fighting is nothing like boxing but knowing how to throw hard fast combos and avoid the other persons cant hurt.

It was Team Michigan vs. Sugar Ray Leonards team from Maryland, and Jimmy Ellis' Team from.... well I forgot where they were from. For the one against Jimmy Ellis' Team a bunch of kids got together from my art class aswell as others and went down to watch it live. I was the Co-MainEvent along with Oba Carr. The guy that I fought, Ferdell Pitts was tough but I won the fight, rocking him hard in the first round. I remember I had landed hard and the referee stepped in to administer the another standing 8-count. The ref let the bout continue and I jumped on him. I forced him to the ropes where I landed a huge right hand straight down the pipe. Ferdell rocked forward and then began to fall to the ground. His head hit into my stomach as his arms rapped around my waist. As he slammed into me I was forced backwards. Ferdell tried to hold on but kept pushing me further backwards. As my back neared what were the far ropes Ferdell slipped to the canvas,. His grasp had fallen around my ankles as I fell backwards, against the ropes and then bounce to the canvas. He was hurt.

He survived that round and we got ****in' again in the second round. In the beginning of the round Ferdell landed a shot and it seemed to scratch my eye. I blinked with the eye a few times but the sight from it remained fuzzy. While I was trying to gauge my vision Ferdell was swarming upon me lookin' to get some back. That was a rough round for me and good experience, I had to fight it with one eye. Ferdell won that round but the last was mine as I just outboxed him.

The next day at school the kids were all going crazy about it. Even if they didnt see it they had heard about it and it gained me alot of respect, with everybody. I was never one to go pick fights or to be cruel in highschool. I was just the quiet kid who did my thing.

Later that year I would win a state Golden Glove and Diamond Glove title and they even announced the victopries over the school P.A. That was cool.

But being a known boxer will keep you out of fights with the proper composure. People will always take the cheap shots with their mouths but when I would step up to see if this is really what they want to do, they would always back down. And I was cool with that.

There were huge guys on the football team that could have probably actually crushed me if we ever fought thinking that they didnt want to fight with me either. Some even told me this as they stood a good 6" taller and 130lbs heavier.

I never had to fight people being a boxer because I would never give them the reason to. If they did give me a reason to it always ended with their words, the same as it began. Walk with pride and walk with power. But also walk with dignity and integrity, knowing that you are representing the brother hood of the pugilist.

One other reason why wrestling and those type of martial arts arent that effective in the streets is becoz in the streets when ur on the ground, u have enuf time to gouge eyes, squeeze groin area, pull hair, bite, pinch and just do dirty tactics which wont let the wrestler do wat he wants. and Bas Rutten even said, "never get on the ground in a street fight" coz he might have friends so ur best bet is stand up fighting.

And how then, without knowing how to grapple would one avoid bieng taken to the ground by an experienced grappler?

Bas Rutten isn't the first guy to say that, that is just common sense, but without knowledge of how to defend against a takedown or throw, you will go down, and then be at the mercy of the person who took you there, and his friends.

It might be ****** to take the fight to the ground yourself, but can you guarantee that every other person in the situation is thinking the same thing?
