Boxing is about achieving self-discipline so that you don't get into street fights in the first place, but you never know when someone is going to run at you in a road rage incident or something, so to answer your question, it does help. Most street fights consist primarily of punches being thrown, so if one person is trained in the art of throwing hard and accurate punches, while blocking and dodging his opponents punches, that would help.

I think it would, but stay on your feet! If you get to the ground you might not do to well, might want to take up judo or wrestling as well, (not sure about judo...)

why do people always ask this? Boxers shouldnt be thinking of this, a lot of people box to try and be tough. Wrong reason to box and you wont accomplish much if you look at it liek that.

One punch is all you need beleive it or not..

Boxers have more stamina
Street fighters play "foul"
If your into boxing to know how to fight on the street in a sense your in it for the wrong reason, but if your in it for self defense its probably better to know alittle bit of both Street fighting and Boxing

one guy here mentioned judo or wrestling being good for the streets but i disagree to an extebt. Wrestling on the ground is good so u can get he upperhand and start attacking ur opponent but u cant use all its techniques in the streets like for instance a fight at skool, u cant put sum1 in a leg lock and break his knees in a skool fight coz ull be ***ed. but u can use it to pin ur opponent and start hitting him. One other reason why wrestling and those type of martial arts arent that effective in the streets is becoz in the streets when ur on the ground, u have enuf time to gouge eyes, squeeze groin area, pull hair, bite, pinch and just do dirty tactics which wont let the wrestler do wat he wants. and Bas Rutten even said, "never get on the ground in a street fight" coz he might have friends so ur best bet is stand up fighting.

People tell me that boxing would not help me in a street fight, I couldnt disagree more. They tell me that there are no rules in street fighting so then boxing wouldnt help me.
Being a veteran fighter your eyes will become so sharp. They will see things that these other fools dont know to disguise. Basicaly, in a street fight youll know what they are doing before they even do it.
As far as the rules go, if I was in a street fight Ill throw my elbows, jam my fingers in their eyes and bust em hard in the nutz. A fights a fight in the street and youll do what you have to do. But to say that boxing would not help because there are no rules is rediculous.
I am always told that they would just come right at me and throw me to the ground. I say that if you survive the carnage that will be coming your way while your charging me to throw me to the ground, then I deserve to get my ass kicked. But I still say that multiple bare fists crashing up against their nose and face will detour their charge, and it does.
A common street fighter is over matched when squaring with a skilled boxer.
