A common street fighter is over matched when squaring with a skilled boxer.
    Damn right Rockin.

Boxing will help you with reflex's and whatnot, but personally, its the person who has the most balls & discipline.

A disciplined boxer doesn't have to go out and get into fights outside of the ring. You leave it in the ring and if your in boxing to just be a tough guy and everything it doesn't happen like that..

Boxing does help. But you need to avoid violence as much as you can. If people shout you ****ing prick! You dont need to run over to then and try and hit them. If you are passive, and dont let things get to you youre wont get pissed off and you can just ignore it! and youll be the bigger man. But if you have no choice, boxing I think will definately help you. Grappling will help too, but yeh someone can attack vital areas pretty easy. But its better to know how to grapple than not. As I hear most streetfights end up grappling anyway. But yeh leglocks ans ****?! Isnt that a bit harsh for a streetfight?! But yeh u can get on top. If you would like to get some information on the art of fighting without fighting. Verbal tachniques I believe? Go to geoff thompsons website and look for the free e book.

I posted on this a few weeks ago, but a guy threw a sucker punch at me. B/c I'd been boxing, I could see his feet square up and see the tensing in his shoulder -- I knew right where the punch was coming, and when it did, I weaved under it and he broke his hand on the wall behind me. I'd only been boxing for a few months -- I'm not a badass and I know that -- but a few months of 3-4 nights a week in the gym: A.) sharpened my eyes and reflexes enough to save my ass; and B.) made him -- and so far, his friends -- leave me the **** alone. They know that I know how to fight, and they're giving me a wide berth.

I live in white-collar uptown yuppie world where the fights I've seen are mostly athletic contests between two frat boys who want to see who can absorb the most punishment -- they're not out to maim each other or end anything quickly. (My particular situation was with the neighborhood meth dealer, but I digress.)

Your mileage may vary. I would recommend visiting www.nononsenseselfdefense.com and reading the whole thing before you think about actually fighting rather than walking away at every given opportunity.

My Senior year in High school I had a great year with the boxing. I had a couple of fights at the Palace where they were televised and everything. It was Team Michigan vs. Sugar Ray Leonards team from Maryland, and Jimmy Ellis' Team from.... well I forgot where they were from. For the one against Jimmy Ellis' Team a bunch of kids got together from my art class aswell as others and went down to watch it live. I was the Co-MainEvent along with Oba Carr. The guy that I fought, Ferdell Pitts was tough but I won the fight, rocking him hard in the first round. I remember I had landed hard and the referee stepped in to administer the another standing 8-count. The ref let the bout continue and I jumped on him. I forced him to the ropes where I landed a huge right hand straight down the pipe. Ferdell rocked forward and then began to fall to the ground. His head hit into my stomach as his arms rapped around my waist. As he slammed into me I was forced backwards. Ferdell tried to hold on but kept pushing me further backwards. As my back neared what were the far ropes Ferdell slipped to the canvas,. His grasp had fallen around my ankles as I fell backwards, against the ropes and then bounce to the canvas. He was hurt.

He survived that round and we got ****in' again in the second round. In the beginning of the round Ferdell landed a shot and it seemed to scratch my eye. I blinked with the eye a few times but the sight from it remained fuzzy. While I was trying to gauge my vision Ferdell was swarming upon me lookin' to get some back. That was a rough round for me and good experience, I had to fight it with one eye. Ferdell won that round but the last was mine as I just outboxed him.

The next day at school the kids were all going crazy about it. Even if they didnt see it they had heard about it and it gained me alot of respect, with everybody. I was never one to go pick fights or to be cruel in highschool. I was just the quiet kid who did my thing.

Later that year I would win a state Golden Glove and Diamond Glove title and they even announced the victopries over the school P.A. That was cool.

But being a known boxer will keep you out of fights with the proper composure. People will always take the cheap shots with their mouths but when I would step up to see if this is really what they want to do, they would always back down. And I was cool with that.

There were huge guys on the football team that could have probably actually crushed me if we ever fought thinking that they didnt want to fight with me either. Some even told me this as they stood a good 6" taller and 130lbs heavier.

I never had to fight people being a boxer because I would never give them the reason to. If they did give me a reason to it always ended with their words, the same as it began. Walk with pride and walk with power. But also walk with dignity and integrity, knowing that you are representing the brother hood of the pugilist.

                    Rockin'

No bull****. They know I can fight, but they don't know how well, and they're apparently not willing to find out. They see me coming and scatter. I've gotta wonder what that druggie mother****er told them; I'm sure all he remembers is excruciating pain, and me coming at him in a peekaboo stance with murder in my eyes. In his drug-addled brain he's probably linked the two subconsciously. I never laid a hand on him -- didn't have to -- he ran off crying like a little girl before I even got into range.

He must've said something, though; since he and his crank-***got buddies started coming around again a few weeks ago, whenever they see me coming they either head for the exit or slip back into his place.

He briefly had the place on the market not too long ago, then removed the listing.
