Do you guys know if there is a difference between the one sided mouthpieces that go on the top and the double sided ones. Is one more efficient than the other? Personally I have the one sided one, I find it's good for breathing but whenever I recieve a hard punch to the mouth the mouthpiece tends to cut my lip.

I've only ever used the single guard and I've never had any problems. Just make sure it fits, bite down hard and you'll be fine!

I used to have a WIPS BrainPad double mouthguard. This was the worst guard I've ever used- super-thick, hard plastic that wouldn't even boil&bite well. My bottom teeth didn't fit that well on it.
Got tagged right on the button with an upper or something while i was wearing that guard. Thought my jaw was busted. completely impacted it back into my skull. Hurt like anything too, couldn't finish the round. It was basically the same as getting hit on the jaw with my mouth wide open, which it might've been considering how poorly the thing fit.
The shock doctor double's way better than the brain pad and feels more like a large single. Like others here, I've never had any problem with singles.

there is no reason to wear a double I post here on occasion I'm the president of Gladiator mouthguards, www.customguards.com and the science behind a double is speculative at best. We currently make guards for hundreds of pro and amature fighters they cost anywhere from $50 to$85 and are 1000% more protective than any boil and bite made. Check the other mouthguard thread someone posted a pic of B-hop that is a gladiator. sorry i don't know how to post pics mouthguard.http://www.hbo.com/boxing/img/events.../action_08.jpg

i've been using the brainpad double.
i got hit clean with a right hook to the mouth.
there was a huge cut on the upper gums, and my front top teeth are loose.
are mouthpieces supposed to cover the entire upper gums?

the brainpad only covered half of my upper gums.

Damn, good news is teeth tend to reset so dont fiddle with um or mess about with um with ur tongue. I wud go to the dentist and get a proper 1 for about 50-60 quid, rather pay that then have crowns or false teeth. U got to keep ur moth close when u fight and bite on the mouth piece
