What? One of oldest defensive techniques in boxing doesn't work? You can still, and will, get hit doing anything. There are different techniques in boxing you know. You don't just slip punches. You don't just duck punches.

That's literally like saying 'blocking a punch doesn't work, you are still getting hit so it is a fail.' If you block a punch with your elbow, you're still getting hit. Does it work though? Or should they have magically disappeared from the ring? If you block a punch, you take the steam off it with your hand and take away it's full power, but you are still getting hit. It can still hurt to block a punch, particularly if you only just get it in time and you don't have time to brace fully. You feel the impact and it can hurt getting hit by your own arm, hand, glove whatever with the impact of the punch behind it. You still get hit, but it's better than getting hit flush without blocking.

Go tell Roberto Duran and James Toney that rolling with a punch doesn't work. It has a purpose that is different to slipping a punch, just like ducking is different, just like blocking or parrying is different. The more technique you know, the better. If you only know how to slip a punch, what happens when you can't? Because you will face times where you can't slip punches, a lot.

If you don't ever practice rolling with a punch, and you do face a big right hand that you can't get out of the way of, you're going to just take it flush and get hurt. If you knew how to roll with it, you take the impact off, and are in prime position to counter with something against an open, off balance opponent. It shouldn't be a primary defensive option, but it has great use for setting up counters.

Saying that doesn't work, with clear evidence to the contrary and a 100 years of practice, is ****ing daft as sticking a nail up your ass. Yes, it's that daft.

It's a different technique than slipping. Not better or worse. Just situational. It works 100% though. It wouldn't be taught and wouldn't have been used for a hundred years to great effect in boxing gyms around the world if it didn't.
