I wouldn't suggest lowering so low (during a deadlift) that you're almost performing a negative rep (that's too much strain on the back), but controlling it, rather than "bouncing" the weight, is definitely the correct way, as long as you keep the bar close to you throughout the rep.
I think the real danger in deadlifting, aside from the obvious rounding of the back, is when you have the bar too far away from your shins. You can seriously **** yourself up.

Shoulders I like Arnold presses and car drivers.
Chest I do pushups with the weighted vest. Not really a bench press kind of guy considering I work out alone.
I never have anyone to spot me working out in my home gym setup with my gear.

Boxingscene survey: how many times a week are you guys working out and for how long?
Me: I try to work out 2-3 times a week; workouts can range from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. Ideally, I'd like to work out 3-4 times a week.
Also, how do you guys manage work/life schedules with exercise times?
Seems like there's just not enough hours in the day for me to work, play, do errands, exercise and do the other million things in between
