  • Taking Naps

Besides scientific studies claiming that taking naps are good for athletes, I hear about professionals taking naps on training days after roadwork, etc..

Do yall boxers/athletes take naps? If so, when, for how long and how often?

and how has it affected your performance and overall energy level throughout the week?

I personally try to take a nap after work, then ill wake up, eat a meal and goto the gym...

Rarely have time for naps, but whatever floats your boat. I dont care for them, life is short and i dont care to make it shorter by sleeping it away. Thats my philosophy on the matter anyways.

Typically a power nap is supposed to be around 20-30 minutes.

If you sleep too much longer than that, usually you'll feel more groggy/sleepy than energized.

Taking nap is great, but unless you are a pro athlere, I doubt you get allowed to take a nap at work

This is spot on in my experience. If I nap longer than 30 minutes or so it can turn into quite a deep sleep and I find it really hard to wake up. And when I eventually do its like Ive just woken up from a nights sleep and I'll feeling pretty crap.

Whereas as Ive had naps that have lasted 30 minutes or so but its such a light nap kind of you are half awake in the twighlight zone and after waking up I feel really refreshed and ready to go.

i agree with yall...when i take a nap, i try to limit it to an hour max, but end up oversleeping a lot, and i would wake up groggy and in a bad mood

but the thing is, i have a hard time falling asleep right away, and might not even pass out untill 20-30minutes

in the morning i will go to the gym, come home eat a light breakfast. fruit or oatmeal and toast and then go back to sleep till about 7am or so. i don't know if that counts as a nap but i do find myself wanting to nap mid-day sometimes, depending on how strenuous the day has been. sometimes it's an hour and sometimes it's two. but i think it may be a little different since i am getting a bit long in the tooth while you guys are probably mostly young bucks.

I think a power nap is only really beneficial if you slept less then 7 hours that night.

what the other posters have said are spot on. my best naps have involved me just lying on my bed and shutting my eyes for less than an hour. I don't really fall asleep but just lie there to recover

If you actually felt like you slept from it, you did it wrong
