I can remember sparring my friend when I was 14 or 15. It was pretty funny he was a year older than me and better than me at most sports like Tennis, football, actually now that I think about it he wasn't better than me at most sports but the point is he had a belief of superiority that got crushed.

I think what shocks people the most about boxing is how physically tiring it is in the ring if you're not used to it. They assume sparring will be like a kick around in the park or shooting some hoops in the court.

I've beat the **** out of most of my friends. We start light, then i hit them lightly they get mad starting loading hayemakers up so I drop their ass. I've never knocked anyone out in the gym but I've knocked a few of my friends out. Legit knock outs to if you get them on the chin with no head gear lol.

Yeah, but its never fun for them though. Some of my friends are bigger then me and they think they would beat me up and I usually just beat the **** out of them.
I do have some sparring partners at the gym that are friends though. That's usually evenly matched

I used to box my friends in the neighborhood, none of us were serious boxers we would just beat the **** out of each other. I had good stamina though so even if I got knocked down a few times I would still get up to get mine. Against guys my size I did good and usually didnt go down, it was the bigger guys that could mess me up.
A couple years ago my friend out here in Hawaii was boxing and training amateur so I went and sparred with him in the ring a few times, he dominated me and he is my size 165-175 we are both around that weight. But I got so tired after a couple rounds I thought I was going to puke. Boxing is super tiring, but I was trying to circle the ring and pick my shots so I think that made me more tired, he hit me with a good left hook to the side when I was slowing down and I just stopped that round. I mean we kept going after that but I had to stop for a minute or two. He didnt knock me down with any head punches or any punches but we hit each other pretty hard. If I had the time to put effort into it I would love to try amateur boxing but it takes time and hard work. But I do love sparring it's a rush.

lol most of my friends are bigger than me. So far we only slap box cause they don't have gloves. Slap boxing not the same though. Can't hit like I wanna hit.

people like to act tough too, that's ok though. i never go hard on my friends. they just get demotivated when they can't cleanly tag a 6'5 240 lbs guy (i go James Toney on them, staying close with shoulder rolls, slipping and countering to the body).. heheh

i never had the urge to drop anyone cuz i haven't fought any tough acting heavyweights, the most ppl that wanna act tough in the gym are smaller and most probably acting that way because of my size. if i ever do go really hard, i go to the body.

i had one sparring partner of mine who was a HW, we mostly turn it up every fight, cuz we wanna outdo each other. ****ing on each other, evading and stuff, really trying to dominate each other. i've sent him staggering with a nice HARD left hook, most i've ever done, it's all respect though.

One did surprisingly well. He had me by about 80 pounds so I stayed away and used my speed but he actually had good defense, philly shell, took me a a few minutes to figure it out then i began to counter over the top of his jab and left hooks to the body pretty much wrapped up the session lol. The other friend didnt do to hot too worried about getting hit and landing a big shot so that just resulted in him throwing shots but pulling out before they even land. He knows I am a good counter puncher lol.

Had a couple of chances to box some guys in the Army this past summer. I was in student leadership at AIT and in our barracks we had two sets of gloves we called "The Problem Solvers." The one guy I actually boxed was about my weight -- 165, now, after Basic Training and 4 months at AIT -- but he was 6'4". He talked a lot of **** about fighting, and one night after he wouldn't listen to me or follow my orders, we busted out the gloves. I have to admit I was a bit nervous because when you're built like a bulldozer, tall guys are tricky.

I used a peekaboo guard because that's where I like to start -- nice and safe so I can assess. He had kind of a Philly Shell but his left hand was way out in front and low, which I thought was unorthodox. . . and kind of ******, actually.

I knew as soon as he pawed his first jab that his "boxing" experience was backyard bull****. I countered with a quick jab and he batted at it with that weird, outstretched left hand.

                    Rookie.

I slipped under his next jab, caught a right on my gloves as I got inside, then drove him back with some quick straights -- he flinched away, leaned way back, and put his hands up -- and once his hands were up and he was leaning back I broke him in half with a heavy left to the liver and hooked him in the head on his way down, knocking him into the floor sideways. It was over in less than ten seconds. His eye was still swollen in his graduation picture.

I didn't have a single person question my authority after that.

There was a heavy bag and speed bag in the gym and I met a couple of guys who actually boxed for real and we did some light sparring because we had no headgear.
