you have to wrap your hands properly, are you the same member who posted the hitting the bag video were the person was swinging wild haymakers at the bag that will cause knuckle discomfort and wrist pain

I also used to bruise my knuckles easily on the heavy bag even with bigger gloves.

First of all, you should let your knuckle heal properly, if you go back to the heavy bag instantly, no matter if new wrap technique or guards, it will take a long time...

But if it is a wrapping issue... with wrapping its just like with a lot of other stuff, there is no general right or wrong, the important thing is what works for you. The way I've been wrapping my hands for almost two years now is that I actually start with 4 or 5 layers of handwrap, place them on the knuckles and go from there. This way I have enough protection on the knuckles, but the wraps don't get too thick on the palm, which used to bother me. Works like a charm for me.

Edit: This is pretty much how I wrap my hands:

I know it say Muay Thai and the guy I saw it from is an MMA fighter, but it works great for me.
I use more layer for the knuckles on one hand, and more wrap for the wrist on the other, where Ihad a light injury a few years ago, so like I said, it's all about personalizing and making it perfect for you. And yes, I leave out the thumb as well, I know a lot of people will disagree, but I never had the slightest problem with my thumb through boxing gloves.

          bullrush =)

mrboxer no I'm not that guy I use 16oz gloves for bag

rochemback great idea that knuckle padding with wrap however the "in between fingers" method hurts me....it's very solid method and I'd really like to use it I just can't...

I always have problems wit pain in my knuckles, finger, wrist joint etc

Use longer handwraps, wrap well over the sore area, and use 16 oz for everything.

Always use 16 for everything, unless you are a little kid that fights at like 90 or 100 lbs, then maybe use 12 for bag and 16 for sparring.

You need to protect those hands.

I had the same issue - I was using the twins gloves 12 oz, and found them to be stiff and hard to make a fist in them.

Might need to break in the gloves if they're new.. I ended up buying new gloves and no more pain.

Twins gloves are all very stiff and hard to wear in, don't use them.

This is how I do my wrapping, using 180inch ringside mexican style wraps, Winning NG-2 gel knuckle guards, and 2 inch athletic tape to hold it in place (without going in between fingers):

Also, using this method, I can **** on opponents' elbows all day long with full power shots, and not feel a THING. However, ever since I started using the Winning NG-2 guards, people say that my punches feel a little softer now, lol. The gloves I always use are Ringside IMF tech training gloves, 16oz

smash69 thanks! I did it wrong. I put the guards on my bare hand and than wraps over it....

I'm 176lbs 25yrs 10% body fat looking to get in my first amateur fight by the time I'm 30 but that's another topic..

Yes it's hard to make a fist in Twins but I thought it's because they are 16oz. Probably not yet burned in I have them for a few months now.

I have only tried King and Twins and Twins felt nice because you can feel it...yes it's hard to make a fist but you also feel the grab much better than on King.

For higher priced gloves I'd have to order online meaning I can't try it first...I also love my hands so much that I'll probably get a better gloves than Twins.

The Ringside IMF tech training gloves are very popular across this forum I know....however the shipping would cost me $100....too much!
