I think i can beat anyone around my weight and age, but a 130 pound 17 year old, i need advice.
If this is a proposed sanctioned USABoxing bout it will never come to fruition. Too much age difference and too much weight difference. Your coach should have his license re-examined.

Exactly Rockin' !! That kind of matchmaking is detrimental to the sport. We need all the fighters we can get into the gyms, and BS like that will chase them away, FAST....

Kermit Cintron started late and look what happened to him when he fought sum1 who started when they were younger...he got owned. beyong developing the physical stuff, if you starte when you're younger you get more time to develop the mental part of boxing.
UN TRUE!! STARTING YOUR SKILLS TRAINING YES. ACTUAL FIGHTING NO. YOU'LL BURN OUT BY THE TIME YOU GRADUATE H.S. THINK ABOUT ALL THE VARIABLES ITS JUST NOT A GOOD IDEA.I'D SOCK THE TRAINER WHO TRIED TO PUT MY 13 YR OLD SON IN A RING W/17 YR OLDS. IT'S TOO EARLY IF YOU WERE IN MY GYM YOU COULDNT SPAR AT 13. ATTEND THE CLASSES, GET ONE ON ONE TRAINING, NEVER SPAR. WTF?
AND KERMIT CINTRON HAS BEATEN PEOPLE WHO HAVE MORE EXPERIENCE THAN HIMSELF. HE FAUGHT A GOOD BOXER WHILE INJURED THATS WHY HE LOST.

I disagree with you guys about no sparrin at 13. Im 13 i go and spar, i spar with another 13 yearold we both weight about same amount (1-2pounds off). We dont beat the **** outa each other.

As for the 13 facin a 17, that cant happen they are in diffrent weight classes and the 17yearold is in Novice Division and the 13yearol is in the Intermediate division.

I think 13 is too young to spar. When I say that I am in reference to the sparing I do. "pretty much 3/4 power & speed" Thats more abuse than you need to be taking at such an early age. Now my trainer does work with some younger kids and what they do for "sparing" is very light, and carefully supervised he's all over them no hard shots to the head. They take some good body shots, But nothing damaging. They do get the feel of being in the ring and having an apponent. But don't get hurt not even the occasional nose bleed. That I agree with. And should be the only exception.
and if it's a local skills bout or exibition match they'll throw whoever in the ring. It doesnt go on your passbook and you don't get credit for the w or l

MY POINT EXACTLY, IT IS ******. THESE SO CALLED SKILLS BOUTS CAN BE REDICULOUS AND THE MATCH OF A 13YR OLD AND 17YR OLD WITH SUCH A WEIGHT DISADVANTAGE IS A PRIME EXAMPLE. THESE BOUTS SHOULD BE MORE CLOSELY SANCTIONED THAN REGULAR AMATEUR FIGHTS. I HAD FOUR OF THEM BEFORE I FOUND OUT THEY DON'T GO ON MY PASSBOOK, OR MY RECORD THOUGHT HIGHLY OF MYSELF FOR A COUPLE OF KO'S BUT DIDN'T GET CREDIT FOR THEM AND COULD HAVE HURT THE GUYS I FAUGHT OR MY SELF.
