Your body can break down non-sugar carbs into glucose, so you don't need to consume it in order for your body to have enough.

I try not to have any sugar in my diet when possible and my overall health and energy levels are fine. In the last month I've had less than 10g per day most days, and that only comes from things such as peanut butter, brocolli and fruit.

Same here, I limit my sugar intake to around 10g a day. I also train almost every day and I do just fine with very little sugar.

Yeah, what's also good is that it stops cravings. After a week or so without them I simply lost the desire to eat high-sugar food.

Yeah same here, it was horrible at first though especially since I used to eat a load of sweets. The cravings were worse than nicotine cravings I swear

Sugar as in the refined forms we see today are absolutely useless and detrimental to our health.

Especially if the sugar is consumed in large amounts, which nowadays it always is.

Basically you can get all the energy (glucose) you need from carbs and protein. Your body does not need any type of man made sugar, or fructose for that matter (although dont stop eating fruit).

With sugar it is ok in very small amounts, but eat a bag of candy and the pure sugar will cause your blood glucose levels to rise dramatically in a very short space of time which will eventually mess up your insulin response and many other functions.

Carbs do the same thing, when you eat carbs they convert to glucose, but the difference between carbs and candy, is that carbs convert to glucose slowly and steadily and so your blood sugar levels are consistant. Sweets, candy and anything high in refined sugar will mess you up.

Everyone is saying how bad fat is, but the real ****er here is sugar.

Well said -I just saw that someone was asking for clarification on my post and I could not have said it better myself. Sooo many people give fat a bad rap when over half our vitamins are fat soluble and the body actually needs fat to deliver little packets of nutrients. Sugar -as in table sugar, baked goods, sodas, ice cream are horrible and the latest on HFCS show that it affects insulin product even more than sugar -so even though calorie for calorie it might be the same the metabolism altering properties if HFCS are much worse and sugar in general.

I used to eat low sugar and I could drop and put on 5lbs without thinking about it too much -put on 5 lbs over Christmas, loose it by mid Jan. Even 10 lbs. Then I had some family stress and for 2 months I ate a high sugar diet - lots of sodas and cookies and other junk and I still only put on 5lbs -but what I put on doing that is so hard to come off -because I wrecked my metabolism and altered things. Sugar is EVIL!!
