    Yeah like it's been said try getting him something custom. That way it's unique to him and it shows how much you care about him being your student.

    But being he comes from nothing he'd probably be greatful for anything you got him

    I'd suggest a maybe a pair of shorts, mouthguard and gloves and if you can afford it get a gym bag.

    This really, really decent of you to do this.

          This is mighty decent of you. Personally I'd go for a pair of gloves and handwraps. It's very important his hands are protected well.

            When I got my headgear my trained told me to sleep in it. I'm not sure if he was joking, but I did it anyway, and it fits much more snug now, or at least it feels like it does

                    I would definitely go with shorts, shoes, and gloves. Those title links that the other guy put up are brilliant, in my opinion. For about $70-$80 you could get him a great quality set. If that's too high for budget, I'd say prioritize shorts and shoes first. If he's gonna be a champ, he should look like one :P
