A good idea to build confidence would be to practice just defence with a partner (preferably an experienced one who can work with you and control himself) throwing light, slow punches at you. Over a few weeks he can build up the intensity, to the point where he is throwing real shots at you and you are comfortable with getting them thrown at you and defending them.
Great advice here, recommend listening to this one.
I do drills like this all the time, keeps you focused on defending and not hitting out all the time.
Good way to do this would be in a small ring or small space so you cant just run away from the guy who's chasing you. This way you end up getting hit and over the weeks and months of training you should get used to getting hit a bit more.

Although like others have said, if it is actually a "fear" of being punched, then sadly this probably isnt the sport you should be involved in, especially not at fighting level.
If thats the case, then get into coaching so you can stay close to the sport.

Hope this helps mate and good luck.
