The way to overcome it is to build confidence, doing light sparring, or light defence work (partner throwing punches at you, you block, parry, slip etc) with the intensity building over several weeks to the point where you are confident and comfortable.

This is very important to overcome as a fear of getting hit creates all sorts of bad habits too, like turning your head away from punches, being too passive and tentative etc
exactly. I had the same fear as TS but I did what you are describing and it took the fear out of me.

Alright, everybody has fear. Don't listen to the ******s here on this ****** forum. There's a reason they are here trying to shove their 5 cents down peoples throats instead of actually making something of themselves, and god will laugh and punish them for it soon enough.

Start by making something that swings from the cieling, like a sand-filled sock nailed to the cieling. or a string tied to the cieling with something heavy on the end of it. i used some metal hooks on the end of a string.

if you practice bobbing, weaving, and slipping everyday youll dodge punches automatically and be less scared of them. you dont have to get hit in boxing, and thats what the ******s in this forum dont understand. tyson and cus d'amato understand it.

and once you automatically start dodging punches, practice on some friends, or maybe a fast swinging angry little brother, and the more you do it, the less scared you get

basically, practice on the slip bag and spar.

haha dillinger keepin it real rite there man. respect hahahaha.

          On the topic:

Man, having too much fear is better than having no fear.
You have to consistently tell yourself that the punch is coming in your head, keep picturing it coming and BAM when it finally does come.
You do what you know to avoid, evade, block, parry one.
I'm only 140lbs, the gym only has guys that weigh 160lbs+ so I'm always sparring guys 160lbs+ and you know getting hit flush by someone that outweighs you by 20 pounds hurt like a *****. So just keep thinking in your mind about the "punch" and time that ****.

Be cool, calm and collected but alert, aware and active.

p.s However if you do end up getting hit flush, gobble them up and get back to what you were doing!

win the fight before it even begins and you wont be scared because you wont view his punches as pain, but as petty ***** attempts to thwart your inevitable victory.

and yes, fights are won before they happen. depending on the persons belief, this ranges from prayer, good training, faith, determination, all that

              boxing is 85% mental.

to lose the nervousness and fear of getting hit i just take a punch in the beginning of the round.

Thats good then, they should be punching slowly more gangly than you unless they are novicely experienced boxers then you'll be learning a thing or too anyway.

Like I said picture the punch coming and move. You have to imagine, anticipate and adapt man. Train around it

Hey bud. This is pretty common for people who esp are starting out. I always think a little thing called composure drills help the most beside sparring. Heres what you do. Grab a partner and stand against the wall. tell your partner to throw combinations at your body and head as if he were throwing real combos, but LIGHT. Learn to block and see the shots and keep your eyes open. straight punches and hooks and uppercuts. It's just a drill. but keep your eyes open. This is the most important thing never look away. Do this for a couple of rounds a day and you will realize that the most powerful punch is always the one you dont see. Hope this helps

composure drills are the best drills for this TRUST me! besides actually sparring. but the best part is unlike sparring you can actually control not getting hurt. cuz almost every gym has gym wars and people who go hard no matter what.
