I ran a mile in 6:22. That was my first mile. I improved a bit.

I ran 3 non stop today.. After I ran my first mile I said **** it... I probably ran 3 miles in under 21 mins.

(It was outside, NOT on a track. I ran across town on the sidewalk, had to cross streets and up and down hills and stuff, wish i lived next to a track or something)
Although timing a mile run is better done on a track, the route you're doing now is better all round for developing your legs and stamina. Hill climbs build strength in your legs, and constant change in surface levels can only increase stamina levels.

I prefer running different routes for my training, but the area i live in is quite hilly, so a flat surface like a trackday helps now and again.

I've done three sets of runs the past week.

The best mile time i achieved was 6.07 mins. My goal in the next 10 days is to break into the under 6 minute barrier.

          Run 1: Street Running. 1 mile - 6.32, 2 mile - 6.53, 3 mile - 7.12

          Run 2: Grass track. 1 mile - 6.16, 2 mile - 6.31, 3 mile - 6.49

          Run 3: Flat track. 1 mile - 6.07, 2 mile - 6.19, 3 mile - 6.33

All future times i post will be from the flat-track, as i am considerably slower on the grass....plus my street running consists of uphill/downhill runs which is not a fair assessment.

'Tomorrow I'm going to aim for 3 miles in 18 minutes, a couple of others on this thread claim to be able to do it. I know I cant quite make it but I'll be happy with an 18:30-18:40. I'll post my time up for a laugh when I've done it.

Well last week I did the three miles in 18:45 as follows:

                  Mile 1: 5:53
                  Mile 2: 6:26
                  Mile 3: 6:26 again!
                  Total 18:45

Today was an 8 second improvement as follows:

                  Mile 1: 5:59
                  Mile 2: 6:15
                  Mile 3: 6:23
                  Total 18:37

The trick seems to be that a slightly slower start helps. Getting down to 18 mins dead will be tough!!! Next Saturday I'll aim for 18:30 or better.....'

Not impressed this weekend, two seconds slower.....but I was a little injured!

                  Mile 1: 6:01
Mile 2: 6:15 Exactly the same as last week!!!
Mile 3: 6:23 Exactly the same as last week!!!
                  Total 18:39

Dammit! I guess I'll need to do some 400 reps before I stagnate at this pace.

This week I decided to try the two miles in under 12 minutes. Bleedin hard task. This was on a measured tar mack road circuit (not track!) I was out by seven seconds as follows:

                    Mile 1) 5:45
                    Mile 2) 6:22

                    12:07 total.

The six minute mile seems quite a tough barrier for anything over one mile.
