I was reading someplace, not too long ago, that a 1-mile timed run is an excellent indicator of your VO2 max. I'll see if I can find the article.

6.32 in 1 mile. I gas far too quick. I struggle with a steady pace for 20 minutes, but i'm not sure what distance i have been covering in that time.

'Tomorrow I'm going to aim for 3 miles in 18 minutes, a couple of others on this thread claim to be able to do it. I know I cant quite make it but I'll be happy with an 18:30-18:40. I'll post my time up for a laugh when I've done it.'

Well last week I did the three miles in 18:45 as follows:

        Mile 1: 5:53
        Mile 2: 6:26
        Mile 3: 6:26 again!
        Total 18:45

Today was an 8 second improvement as follows:

        Mile 1: 5:59
        Mile 2: 6:15
        Mile 3: 6:23
        Total 18:37

The trick seems to be that a slightly slower start helps. Getting down to 18 mins dead will be tough!!! Next Saturday I'll aim for 18:30 or better.....

A treadmill has to accelerate you to that speed, plus it is dictating your pace......it is forcing you to run at the speed you've programmed and that is if its accurate in the first place. The best way to check your times is on a proper track with you dictating your own pace, do four laps of 400 metres and that takes you to the mile.

Even folks who can genuinely beat the 5 minute mile will admit, the pace you have to keep up is ridiculously quick for a non professional athlete.
True that. On a treadmill I run like 5:30miles and on road I run 7:30 miles.

I never accurately timed myself with a stop watch. But here are my times that i've constistently came up with:

                  8 miles: 60 minutes
                  5 miles: 40 minutes
                  4 miles: 30 minutes
                  2 miles: 15 minutes
1 mile? I have no idea...since i'm not that fast id say about 6 or 7 mins? I never really timed it.

I run all the fcukin time. Ya got to if you wanna fight. But lately i've been running every day consistently for two weeks. With a day to rest my bones. It's aiite. Mentally it gets better when i run everyday. I fcukin hate it, but it's something ya gotta do.

I usually never keep track of time but today i decided to and I did 3.5 miles today in 26 minutes today. How would you rate that?

(It was outside, NOT on a track. I ran across town on the sidewalk, had to cross streets and up and down hills and stuff, wish i lived next to a track or something)

I did 1.5 miles in 7:58 for a V02 max test in college last semester but the second time I tried I was sicker than a dog but still managed just 1 mile in 5:30 on the nose. I don't know what I would have got if I wasn't sick and been able to train running specifically (1 ran just once a week at the time) for it. I'm thinking 5:15 or maybe a bit better. I haven't been training the last 4 months much at all though so...itd be slower now.
