I did 1 mile in 6 mins 57 secs today..
I know I could probably do it in under 6 if I ran harder.. I'm used to running in the evening.. Today was the morning.. Im going to run again tomorrow.. Im going to see what my time is then.

Hi Folks, I tend to run longer distances ( 4.5 miles -half marathon ) so the mile isn't really my race. I run on a measured road section around the local sports centre. I would be faster on a proper flat running track than on gravel (for these figures) but here are a few of the times I am trying to beat in laps on the same section:
0.5 mile: 2:29
1 mile: 5:35 (funny that! Being 1 second off the thread starter.)
2 miles: 12:13
4.5 miles: 28:57
10K (6.25 miles): 40:33
9 miles: 61:18
The best local runners do beat these times by a fair margin. The first barrier seems to be to crack the seven minute a mile mark as a comfortable running pace for several miles. I'm trying my best to get it closer and closer towards the 6 minute mile average, although I haven't managed 2 miles in this time yet!Last edited by Sugarj; 08-05-2009, 10:29 AM.

Keep the times coming... if anyone wants to post up original times and then update them when they go faster feel free.
Junior G are you the boxer in your signature .gif?

Thanks for the compliment John, the local runners dont box, you're right. But the best can run 10k (6.25 miles) 4-5 minutes faster and some can get nine miles well under the hour, they'd decimate me!
I dont know any that can beat me in an arm wrestle though, they're pretty skinny!!! Hee hee

Hey, Junior. Good to see you. So to speak.
5:54 and 5:59 the last two times I timed myself. I haven't been doing much speedwork in my running the past year; rather, I've been working on efficiency and technique -- relaxing, breathing, working the hinge principle with the knees, proper posture, consistent mid-foot strike, etc. (hell, I even read Runner's World) -- as I've been running 5 and 10K's. My last 10K (6.2 miles) was 57:34, and that was with some gentle hills. I run like a truck but I'm getting better.
I should note that the easiest fight I've ever had was at Middleweight, and I was running a 5:15 mile right before. Man, I was FIT. I was barely breathing hard. I need to drop 10-15 lbs. and get back to a quick mile and smaller opponents.
