Does anyone know how you can measure the power of your punch?

I know people tell me at Boxing that when I hit the bag and pads that I hit really hard for my size, but how can you truly measure how hard you hit.

I am curious to see what it would be? My kickboxing trainer told me the same thing, but I always thought that most people that trained in boxing or some form of martial art would hit hard.

I know hard hitting doesn't win fights and recently I have been running out of steam quicker than others. I have been told it's maybe cause I am always putting everything into my punches. Is this the case or do I just have to train harder on the heavy bag to improve my power punch output!

    Any advice?

its difficult because the type of power is important, bare with me here!

a light snappy blow with lots of speed and little weight would do alot of damage to the head of an opponent but bounce off the body.

slow but heavy punches would hurt the body but simply push the head with little damage.

the average punch power machine at these fair grounds really only measured the speed of your hand. so on these muhammed ali would seem to have more power than george foreman!

      both!
you'l need to improve your stamina but you cannot through full power punches non stop. through some light snappy punches too and through your power punches within the combos of snappy punches.

explains why I always maxed out those machines and I'm not very big

I gotta say though, if you "make the bag swing" that's not a sure sign of power. If it's slow enough your mind can prepare you for it and it won't hurt.

Getting hit by a punch you don't see coming (a fast one) or a punch that lands before you have time to instinctively flex your core. hurts wayy more.

true. making the bag swing could be a sign of power or it could be a push punch.

so many things that have an affect on the effect of apunch on you opponent.
You can have really light hands but if your quick and you tap your opponent on the tip of the jaw he will probably go down. similarly if your slow with great power but terrible accuracy so you only hit your opponent on his shoulders elbows and skull you won't be too effective. (unless of course you have the power of foreman, shavers etc)

if your trainer says you have decent power, then you probly do, one sure way to find out is....sparring, if you can drop people with body shots or when you throw shots to the head and it wobbles them then thats a sign that you have good power in your weightclass.

I disagree, I set the record (I hit around 965-980 on these machines depending on how they're set) with big, ugly, from the waist right hooks (I'm orthodox.) I am going to have to post a video of myself, because I am a seriously hard puncher. I hit ****ing hard. But it's ugly, but the punches are hard...

every machine I come to, I set the record on, the only one I did at a fair the guy took me to the ****in manager of the fair and he asked me if I could hang around every night for a few hours around the punch machine. After I set the record I started shadowboxing and **** and a small crowd amassed. my gf thought it was hot...dumbass ***** lol....anyway...they're in bars, etc. you just gotta look around. but the first guy that replied made a good point. These machines won't measure the most important punch well, which is the jab. Good to see the difference in your left and right hooks though.

I used to show up at this hillbilly bar in a ****in suit, after selling cars all day, and put 15 1 dollar bills in the machine...(that's 30 punches)...i didn't care if a band was playing, i didnt care about anything, I just laid into it and set the record (was like 959 or something these machines only go up to 1000) ..Put like ten of my businesscards on the machine and rolled out...

yea I only lasted 5 months in the car business, I couldn't live with myself. I sold a Focus to this old lady at full sticker, and then ****ed her on the gap insurance and didn't even give her the rebate...Everyone acted like I did a great job, and when the paperwork was getting done she told me that she had three kids over age 15 living with her in a trailer and a dead husband, and no job......(paid with cash)

I ****ing felt like **** I went home and iced down 20 bottled bud selects and drank every single one of them (with 2mg alprazolam inbetween)

woke up the next day and walked in and quit...they tried to tell me I was a natural but **** that...i cant live with myself ****ing people over for a living like that **** the auto industry I'm much happier being a phoneman...
