well, i am just a bit dissappointed that nobody ****ing emailed me about this thread.

wouldnt u guys rather hear from a person who does martial arts? i would think so.

anyways, takedowns are a ***** unless u know how they happen, what sets them up, and how they can be worked with/ aka handled.

sprawling, as mentioned will help a lot. but study what mma boys do from that bridge. you may be able to set up a nasty punch combo.

most MMA boys use either kickboxing or thai boxing as a striking art. so, your elbows will be extremely helpful in your upper gate defence.

always, always be aware of where your feet are and your movement options.

if u need some specific help, PM me.

i have 2 years of karate, 4+ years of chinese boxing/martial arts, have been in more than a handful of real fights against other stylists(both street and boxing matches - not including sparring obviously), and kickboxing and wresting experience.

      good luck!!!

There are a few guys you're not thinking about...
They're not all champs or ATGs, but they do have wins in Boxing, without full use of all of their tools...

          from kickboxing:
          Vitali Klitschko
          Matt Skelton
          Troy Dorsey
          Ray Sefo

          from muay thai:
          Khaosai Galaxy
          Samart Payakaroon
          Somluck Kamsing
heck, any boxer out of Thailand..

          from mma:
          Jens Pulver
          Marcus Hicks
Jamie Varner (national collegiate boxing champ - never went pro)

That being said, most mma guys come from wrestling and have **** standup.
Sure, if he's got cr@p standup, you've got a good chance to land a KO punch.

Any of the guys that have been talking **** about muay thai are more than welcome to stop by any legit, local, muay thai gym on any day and show those guys first-hand how superior you are.
Living in a boxing town, we get a lot of pure boxers in all the time.
The look in their eyes after their first leg kick is priceless.

I love boxing, I train it, I have nothing against boxers, I enjoy coming here, and I'd like to compete in amateur boxing some day; but if you guys are going to talk smack you better be able to back it up.

I wasn´t talking about Muay Thai or Kickboxing, I have a healthy respect for both. I sparred with a Muay Thai guy a couple of days ago and you are right about the leg kicks, it takes some adjusting for a boxer! though the other higher kicks I managed to block okay (I got nailed by a front kick though).

But how many of these so called Masters / senseis and the like that are supposed to have extraordinary ability to block every punch, knockout people with a simple punch, if all that BS was true then the would be able to beat world class boxers in boxing matches, but they can´t!

              I've boxed MMA fighters before....

These MMA fighters came through the stable the other night. They can fight, but they definately couldn't box.

I was in there with this guy and his coach gives me the song and dance about working on the inside with him (cus he has a MMA fight in a couple weeks) to throw punches. He's a wrestler and all that stuff. At first it was cool. Workin moderately, moving. The guy couldn't box. The only time he'd catch me is when he was on the inside. He really wanted to clinch and hold and grab. I'm like aiite, whatever. But then i started thinkin, this cat doesn't want to box. Within the next few rounds i said "fcuk it". He didn't know that i have martial arts background, so by grabbing and holding, he figured he was taking me out of my element.

All i did was get in a position not to be taken down. Then i hooked his arm while hitting him with my right and trying to spin him. It worked a good portion of the time. But when i would hook his arm, i was really trying to break it. The next rounds, i would evade or slip his grabs and holds and throw him through the ropes. I was spinning him, turning him, hooking his arm and occassionally throwning punches. I didn't even throw hard punches in the beginning. In retrospect, i would have gone full throttle and tried to KO him. But my coach told me he didn't have any boxing experience, and not to put hella yolks on him.

If either coaches said, "fcuk it" go ahead and fight. I would have used all my limbs: Arms, Knees, Legs, Elbows, Fists and tried to kill the guy or at least put him in the hospital. I got hated on that night. But fcuk it. I'm all about fightin. That's what i do. I can take an ass whoopin as well as i can give one. The respect was their, but they weren't very hospitable or friendly. *****, they were on my turf though.

I ain't a ****-head or an ******* and i got mad respect and honor. It's just in my mind, fighting is essentially war. Kill or be killed. That aggression is apparent when i fight. After it's all said and done, i'm the nicest, funniest, jovial, person you'll ever know. I never fight with emotion though. Never. It's all business to me.

I'm tryin to calm and harness that aggressive spirit. I think i should meditate more. Maybe i should try loving somebody.

First vid is good, shows how a boxer not used to evading low kicks will get done over.

Second vid it looks like Berbick believed the rules were only kicks to the waist up.

heres a video of crap Karate guys versus average/ok boxers

And a video of a average/good karate guy versus crap boxer

But anyway if you MA guys wanna help, how do boxers evade the low kicks?

I'm with yah on hating on cr@p MAists who talk **** and never back it up.
                  Like those no-touch KO dudes.

As far as dealing with low kicks, the best thing you guys can do as boxers & not be taken out of your framework/stance, is to consider the leg kick your toll for closing distance.
You only want to pay that toll once.
Once you pay that toll, you want to cross that bridge and do your work - without having to pay that toll again.
                  It'll hurt like a mofo.
The key to taking the shot is to sit your leg on that leg - it'll still hurt, but a little less.

pushkicks are another b!tch for boxers.
it's a kickboxer's jab - range finder, distance keeper, and counter to punches.
dealing with pushkicks, the best thing for you guys to do is to parry them to the side on their way in so you can follow up with punches - again, don't pay that toll more times than you have to.

Thanks for the advice but what do you mean by sit your leg on that leg? shouldn't you try lift the knee and check with your shin?

If you can box and use lateral movement, you can beat any street fighter including the ones who pretend they are martial artists.
