The pic in my avy is me, in the white, beating the crap out of somebody in a smoker.

I have boxed for three years. I have had six charity smokers, 3-minute rounds w/16 oz. gloves. I am 37, registered with USA Boxing as a Master Boxer, and there is no one else in this city who is in my weight and age class who wants to compete on the record besides my friend and regular sparring partner; he's been boxing for 3 years longer than me and he would kill me in a bout. The charity bouts are a way for me to compete against younger (non-Master Division) fighters, and other recreational boxers. I have no ambitions toward going pro or anything like that.

I started boxing as a way to get my fat ass in shape and learn how to get over my fear of getting punched (hence my username), and have come to enjoy it as a sport and as a spiritual journey.

I injured my neck and broke my finger in a car accident at the end of March. I have been rehabilitating and recently joined a new gym. I should be back to sparring in another couple of months and intend to fight at the Ringside Nationals in '09. If things go well for me financially this summer I would like to start traveling and doing fights in other cities as soon as I get the go-ahead from my doctor.

I used to bodybuild and was a bodybuilding/fitness freak in my 20's. I have just started studying for my NSCA certification in fitness training, and am thinking about switching careers to become a personal trainer.

I began lifting weights last summer, and stopped in January to start boxing at a local gym. I went to the gym for exactly 2 months when my parents forced me to stop because grades began falling. I continued doing many of the exercises at home, and planned on going back to the gym in June, only to find that it has no air-conditioning, and gets to about 47 degrees celcius on an average night. My mom refused to let me train under such conditions, saying that it is detrimental to my health, so I am stuck without the boxing gym until fall. I recently bought and hung a heavy bag in my basement, and am continuing all of my conditioning workouts on a daily basis.

So, as of right now, I don't box. I hit the heavy bag, but, because I haven't been able to really get the technique down for the basics in the two months that I went to the boxing gym, I am hitting it for conditioning. Just quick 1-2 punches for 3 minutes x 7 rounds. If people ask me if I box right now, I say no.

None have said they would spar me, but I do have 2 pairs of gloves in the car and I've actually offered ppl to do it in the street at work. Only one agreed. He quit from a body shot. haha. In the employee parking lot.

Just don't even waste your time or attention on them. You know you can take them, and proving to them in a parking lot doesn't really show anything. Do your business in the gym.

It has been awesome reading your stories, and I thought should answer my own question.

I haven't been boxing for long and I'm too old to do much other than a few years of amatures, but if I start something I put everything into it. I train six nights and few mornings a week with my trainer and do cross training on the seventh day. I run and swim a few times a week and incorporate weights into shaddow boxing and sit ups etc.

I don't have a program. I just listen to my body. If I suck at something, or a part of my body doesn't feel sore I work on that. I've had injuries but I still turn up and work another part of my body.

My daily training is skipping, shaddow boxing, boxing circut, sparring and then light weights or body weight exercises.

When I first started I didn't even think of it as exercise. I just wanted to be a boxer. I was born with a killer instinct and for some reason I enjoy getting punched in the head. Makes me feel alive. I'm very stubborn and have fought for a hell of a lot in my life... when i'm boxing i feel more like myself than when i'm doing anything else.
