Like instead of doing less repetitions of heavier weights, do higher repetitions with lighter weights and dont increase the weight after every set of reps like you would if you were trying to get to your 1 rep maximum or something like that.
I THINK thats what he meant anyway.Last edited by GrizzleBoy; 10-09-2007, 04:34 PM.

weight will only slow you down if you start getting to buff, you can get fairly muscular before it becomes a real problem.
muscle also gives you armor, and armor is good, muscle also increases punching power.
If your natural body weight is a bit over weights, id go for high reps and lots of cardio, since your muscles will already be large, if your natural body weight is skinny, then lift weights.
Guys like Bruce Lee became so fast because they have a small bone structure, small boned=light bones, and light bones with lots of lean strong muscle equals speed.

Do a shadowboxing with dumb bells on both hands, it will increase speed and power at the same time...

Depends on how you do them.
But if you do them right and stretch well then they should only increase speed.

i'll be lifting weights over the next couple of months. it's not necessarily for boxing, it's just to maintain lean mass as i lose weight. i'm not exactly against weights and not afraid to gain muscle because i'm going to be a heavyweight regardless, but i'm not going to lift them as a part of my functional training before i research more, or when i have certain trainers telling me it will improve me. isn't getting bigger all about diet anyway?
usually to gain muscle you have to utilize resistance training and eat A LOT over you maintenance calories. and even then you are not going to get close to what bodybuilders look like unless you take steroids. ****, you won't even look like natural bodybuilders with all the cardio and functional boxing training, which will nullify any gains, and that is if you decide to bulk. people are afraid to gain muscle, but the truth is it's not going to happen unless you are really trying to gain it.
