I dont think boxing will ever regain the respect it once had. one man changed the sport forever the likes of which we will probably never see again. The Greatest of All Times.

Respect? I think its always had the same amount of respect its always had. Explain to me whats different? In clear points?

Is it the boxers who've lost respect? Or is it the sport in general?

Hmm.. ok I'll take your point.. General public Interest... does that word it better.

The Public doesn't know who boxes.

If you ask someone from the general public to name 3 heavyweights they won't be able to even name the champion.

compared to the 80's when families used to go to the fights in person.. Wife and all.

Big name Boxers were on TV all the time. Mayweather and De la hoya only got some shine because of all the hype.

Boxers met the president back then.

Can boxing regain that status is what im basically asking.

Plzz do so... because Boxing needs alot of things to be done... and Even though I'm very confident (maybe even overly), I can not put the sport back in its rightful place alone...

Needless to say thats if I Make it At all.. Though I feel Its inevitable.

I take the Job of worrying about the sport as if without me it will die....It looks ****y to some..But honestly i just feel as If I'm getting to the point where I feel responsible for the sport. And honestly though I feel that way I actually have no right as of now to even think like that.. Thats why I train so hard till I can hardly walk straight without hurting because It will be my position someday. ... Maybe others should think the same.

I been flying hard training... When I land Everyones gonna feel it. It'd be nice to know someone else thought the same and really meant it.

lol... A new ALI or TYSON or SUGAR RAY would come along I probably wouldn't worry as much.

It won't happen. Unless someone came along who had a perfect, all-KO record and was making millions, living "the life," ****ing Beyonce, and showing his place on MTV Cribs -- and even then, he'd be an afterthought as soon as he lost once. The talent and dedication that makes a champion boxer doesn't get respect these days; he'd have to make himself into a clown, and boxers don't play that ****. Decent ones, anyway. The sport is on the outs. I don't mean to be excessively negative, but the world is going in a different direction these days.

At first that sounded ****y like you say but I read the rest of it. That's pretty respectable man. I mean you work very hard for the sport you love and you feel responsible for it. That's cool man. I wouldnt let it weight you down though, like depress you if you think boxing is going down the drain or whatever.

Although I have only seen a tiny amount of footage of like 50s boxers. From what I saw they did not look anywhere near as good as the boxers of today.

I could be wrong but I think boxing is coming back. Maybe in the past few years I've just been paying more attention, but I feel like I've been seeing more and more general interest. I'm not in a big boxing area but I theres been a handful of places that either added boxing programs or opened up near me, theres boxing on espn twice a week, and there was the contender which got a decent amount of attention. There have also been a number of boxing movies that have done pretty well with the main stream: cinderalla man, million dollar baby, play it to the bone, made, this new movie with that homeless ex-boxer, of course rocky balboa, and I'm sure a number of others I'm not remembering or haven't heard of. And then there was the mayweather de la hoya fight making record breaking pay per view numbers. To me that says the sport is at least hanging around, and if the right things happen I could see it continuing to increase in popularity.

My sense is its gotten more popular in other countries as well just based on reports of superstar status for boxers like hatton, pacquaio, kessler, valuez and the klitscho's, and of course mexico always turns out great boxers.

There are things that could improve in the state of boxing, but I don't get why so many people say its a dying sport and all that. Don't get me wrong, its great if people here want to use *saving the sport* as motivation or whatever, and getting people fired up is great, but I don't think boxing is in nearly as bad shape as some people say.

up until the 80's, the heavyweight champ of the world was the world's greatest athlete. but the 80's are long gone.

.........I wish it would have never changed... Even ALI himself said the sport was dying. but his reason was "Because no one talks anymore".

And to the other guy talking about contender and all..

Those things you mentioned are great...Especially the mayweather De la hoya fight... But Boxing still hasn't Regained its Rightful Seat Back.
