About the neck exercises, I'm not sure I agree with PunchDrunk. To absorb the impact of the punch is a lot like catching a football. You bring it back with the punch basically in a controlled way, like shocks on a car. You don't move forward... that just creates more momentum. No beef Punchie, just some simple physics.
I'm not saying you should bring your head forward. The thing about a punch that does damage to your brain, is that it accelerates your head. Your brain is floating around in there, and when the head moves, the brain will stay in place a little longer and then bounce against the skull.

What I'm saying is simply that training your neck to beacome stronger at pulling your head backwards has nothing to do with withstanding a punch, because a punch accelerates your head the same way.

I've seen fighters (like Andrade against Kessler) turn their heads with the punch, but that is the chin going side to side, and has nothing to do with strength of the neck. That is skill and agility.

Trick, think a little bit about your example with the football catch, and you'll see that I'm right about the neck exercise. Here's why:

Yes, when you catch a baseball, you kinda move back with it. BUT! What type of muscle contraction are you doing?
        1. Are you contracting muscles that accelerate backwards? This would mean that the ball wouldn't decelerate and come to a stop when it hit the hands, rather you would accelerate your arm backwards untill you got out of control.
        2. Or are you in fact contracting muscle, that would normally make the arm go forward, in an excentric way that makes the ball decelerate, rather than stop dead like hitting a wall?

Number 1 is the exercise DA1 is doing, learning to accelerate the same way as the punch moves your head. Use those muscles when punched, and you'll end up looking at the ceiling, because you'll continue backwards when hit.

Number 2 is the way I propose to do it. Strengthen the muscle that stops the acceleration that the force of a punch enforces on your head. Whether you believe in stopping the punch dead with your head, you decelerating it is a matter of technique, but it's the same muscles, working in the same direction that are needed.

Hope that made it a little clearer?

Try putting your hand against you head and push it backwards like a punch would do. Now, at the same time you're doing this, use the movement DA1 does in his neck exercise. What happens? Your head goes completely backwards untill you lose control of it. Is that something you'd want when punched in a fight?

Now try pushing your head the opposite way, and see what a difference it makes.

There's nothing wrong with doing it the way you were. Keep doing those, and do them the other way as well. It's always good to have a nice strength balance. Sometimes it's just important to keep in mind how things work, and why you shouild do them.

i dont see anything wrong with doin neck every day. but not 7 days a week. give it at least 1 day to recover like any other muscle. i heard that ur neck recovers like ur abs so its perfectly ok, and actually good, to work it evreyday, but it still needs rest like any other muscle. i think im gonna start doin it everyday too, after my morning roadwork, im gonna do them the way u did it and the vid (what i do now) and the way punch recommends as well...
