Good analysis, I have to agree.

Skill is not the only criteria when judging a fighter's legacy though. It's all about results. Who have you fought, and who have you beaten? There have been plenty of amateur boxers who had a lot of skill and yet did nothing special in the pros. There have been guys with Mayweather's skill (not neccesarily his skill mixed with his handspeed, footspeed, stamina, and power) who couldn't even win titles, let alone become legends.

"Legend"....is a strong word; and not to be used lightly.

It is far too soon to put Mayweather in this category....maybe even De La Hoya. I know the talent both possess; and the wins both have, etc.

But to attach the word "legend" to a fighter, is to match him mythically with every great fighter in his weigh class who has ever lived....in additoin to comparing his competition and where they were in their careers with the accepted "legends" competition and really compare how they measure up.

Being undefeated and extremely talented does not guarantee the mantle of "legend".....nor does fighting the best, if you lose.

        Just some thoughts.

I was just about to say the exact same thing.
          In the exact same words.
Wearing exactly what u are right now.

Legends are made from their fights. Not how good they looked.

              let the promotion begin.

the way I see it..Mayweather has a way to go before being considered a "legend" on DLH's level. When you consider everything. Opposition,PPV buys, legacy, brings attention and excitement to the sport, etc.

If we are talking about ability alone, Mayweather has the tools, but there is more to the mythical "legend" status than that.

LMAO Oscar fought and beat more legends before he was 25 than PBF ever will if he fights for 5 more years........get the **** outta here with that **** PBF.........Oscar is a far bigger star and legend IMO.

Name two top tier opponents Carlos Hernandez ever beat. The same guy that lost to Bobby Pacquiao and a 40 year old Kevin Kelley.

Castillo 1 was a gift win for Floyd, and Mosley 2 was a gift win for Mosley. If I recall, the Mosley 2 fight was voted "robbery of the year" by the BWAA.
DLH did win the second Mosley fight, but Castillo 1 was anything but a gift if you know how to accurately score fights.

Obviously. Mayweather has incredible skills, and is argubly the most skillful fighter of our generation, if not all time.
However, he didnt do enough with those skills to put him on the level of DLH.
Like I said earlier, I actully think Floyd is better than DLH (prime and present) but that doesnt mean he is on DLH's level of being a legend.

mayweather is delusional if he thinks the fight's gonna happen on his terms. Oscar de la hoya runs this **** and he's just getting started. The way he's going he's going to mean more to boxing than any other boxer ever has (boxer to Promoter who may soon monopolize a stable of most elite fighters and run things as he pleases.). Mayweather does not have 1 tenth the bargaining power of oscar. Oscar can say it's his farewall fight, put on a dope ass card with his golden boy stable and sell over a million pay per view. Mayweather can go out big time to though, by moving up and taking Spink's coveted 154 title before calling it quits , right?

                      NO

Mayweather has got this **** all backwards, he's the best boxer p4p i've ever seen but it doesnt make him the biggest attraction with the biggest following or who is seen remembered in history, because at this point he doesn't go down as much more than a footnote next to what de la hoya has done and will do (promotional).
