  • Y'all musta forgot

    too many people say RJJ is overrated and diminish his aclomplishments, and claim that he didnt fight anyone, ok i am just going to give you to examples;
    James Toney- come on he fougth him at supper middle when they both were undefeated, and KO'ed him, now a fit fast toney, that now as a fat man is giving hell to the heavyweight divition.

    Beranerd Hopkins at middle, a future hall of famer who went on to do defend his title a record ammount of times, lost to RJJ

    lets add anotherone how about Montell Griffin who he unarguably beated twice, was undefeated and had also defeated James Toney.

    and ofcourse he won a HW title what else should he have done to be considered a good boxer.

    ohh yeah and all those Ring Magazine figther of the year help too

    now you got the nerve to say he didnt fight anyone??

    Jones didn't kayo Toney or even come close to doing so. I do think that now people tend to underrate how good Jones was.

        Those are people who are just mad bc their boxer does not have the credibilty that roy has. roy is an all time great and just bc he lost a few fights people are calling him trash well we saw what happend to all the tarver fans when hops beat him they all called him trash and when maywhether loses they will call him trash too. unless you are unbeaten you arent liked thats what it seems like with some of these people on this site.

          He didn't KO Toney but he dominated him. I don't remember seeing Toney so outmatched in a fight. Jones was toying with him.

                    RE: (ill-looking) Toney KD. I don't count that as a legitimate KD. Yeah, it was CALLED, but if you watch it from a different angle Toney went down from colliding with Roy's body. I mean, we all know Toney was off balance and taken by surprise anyway, but it was a body clash, he didn't go down from the shot itself. Trust me, watch it from a different angle and you'll see.

                    Still, I don't take the Toney fight away from him, or the Hopkins fight to a lesser extent.

                    But this "virtual boxing" that we seem to have got into recently causes me much consternation. Look at how Floyd is saying that he doesn't have to fight certain opponents because he'd "beat them anyway". So many times with Roy an opponent's name is brought up (in particular, The Man at light-heavy) and the dismissive reply of "oh, he'd beat them anyway" is given. Maybe he would. Probably he would. But I watch boxing, I don't play guessing games and might have beens. I don't sit around saying "Muhammad Ali is a great heavyweight, he'd be able to beat Foreman and Frazier." I've watched him actually do it.

                    Some people might be satisfied watching someone who looked phenomenal do it against mediocre opposition... and Roy DOES look phenomenal when he's fighting Richard Hall. But for me, it's not enough.
