in that case maskaev would almost be nuts not to fight wlad instead of peter. he will lose either fight and most likely retire, he may as well go with the most money.
he was being offered 5 mil by wlad and then some on top of that, I dont think he will be making close to that for the peter fight, so it was a ****** move by maskaev...

maybe i just don't know enough about maskaev, but i think peter is quite possible going to destroy him. if he could catch toney as many times as he did- maskaev is in for a short night.

I honestly don't see Maskaev getting past Klitschko, Peter's camp wants that fight because it tailors to Peter's style. Maskaev isn't a mobile fighter. Doesnt have a huge repetoir of skills and if given some good pressure by a slugger like peter will crumble. Peter's camp doesn't want to mingle with the Klitschko regime again, He's strong mobile and has some technical skills. So if Peter hopes to gain a world title he has to try to get to Maskaev first and then run from Klitschko for as long as he can. He would probably push a fight with Sergei Liakhovich, to stay away from that fight with Klitschko. Defend his belt (s) against some week manditories.
But yeah he should want Maskaev Now

Rahman was not beating Maskaev before the knockdowns. It was close, maybe even Maskaev was ahead I forget how I/HBO was scoring it.

Im one of the guys that thought peter did eke out a close win over toney but I also think toney deserves a rematch if peter gets past maskeav. it was a close and difficult enough fight to score to warrant such. hopefully peter will oblige and remove any controversy

Dammit by all means let it happen.

The HWD should be more active on making these fights happen.

A rematch between Peter and Toney IF Peter gets past Maskaev?

In as much as I also want to see that happen happen, it's not logical for Peter to defend his new title against the guy who he has just re4cently beaten.

But then since it's all money talk so who knows?
