The bottomline in a nut shell is that Muhammad Ali was able to make adjustments when his youth and athleticism had declined but Roy Jones could not.

He had no fundamentals to fall back on. Once Jones' athleticism and youth had become exhausted he started to get knocked out frequently by much lesser foes.

Bingo! There is no way Roy was better skilled.

I agree with this. Doesn’t mean I don’t think Roy was highly skilled.

Ali used what fundamentals? I think Roy gets underrated because he mentally checked out after the KO loss, more so than this huge flaw in technical skill or fundamentals. In Tarver III he showed he could still outbox and beat the likes of Tarver but he just couldn’t hold onto that confidence, he was dented after that initial KO.

Sht look at when Roy got cauht by Tarver in fight II. Mr “no fundamentals” had his ****ing right hand up, Tarver just got through. Probably aided by the fact he kind of stumbled forward, which put Roy slightly out of position, but also, it’s just boxing, you don’t necessarily have to have done anything wrong to get caught. Sometimes things don’t work out. So yea, I ride more with the idea that Roy Jones got his ego crushed, and that was his main issue. The bigger you are the harder you fall and all that.

If his ego got crushed, it wasn't the KO to Tarver that did it, likely the KO to Johnson right after. Hell, that was supposed to be a tune up.

Glen Johnson at that stage was not a tune-up fighter. If you’re trying to build confidence in your fighter with a get back fight, that’s not the fight to do it with because it’s going to take mental fortitude to fight off Glengoffe.

Ali was the more skilled and Jones was more gifted.

I would say Ali much more skilled, but Roy was slightly more better in terms of athletic ie reflex and movement
