like a lot of drunks, he was all over the place. sometimes he was so clever you had to pinch him to see if he was real. most of the time he was an old blowhard and an alcoholic. he was known ringside as "old vodka breath," and yes, he drank on the nights of the fights. i never met him but i've been around a lot of boxing broadcasts, and believe me, there's enough downtime to get ****ing wasted.
What did you think of Larry Merchant as a commentator?

sucker punch.. ref was not yet signaling that the fight is resume. and the ref was still communicating to the judges. really a girl's move.. and for ortiz his acting was a little too much hoping for a DQ but this paid ref still count and used that moment to pay off floyd. Its a world championship prize fight, you wanna stand there with your hands down you will get hit, they are programed to fire at any opening its no different to when a guy gets hit a split second after the bell, or a guy is hit while down at the end of a combination its more reflex than premediated thought.
It would educate you so much to have a crack at boxing your eyes will open like dinner plates, all you see now is hate and thats tunnel vision.Comment
