Canelo weighed 172 on fight night versus Mayweather all those years ago ...

Anyway, if Ward takes the time to actually get in shape and be ready, it would be easy work. Much easier than Froch.

I think Froch in shape would win vs Alvarez too.

Canelo was just shy of 165 against Mayweather, about 8-10 pounds of where he normally would have been. This is why it’s such a joke for Floyd’s faithful to continue to say “but it was only 2 pounds”.

As crazy as it sounds Canelo has more power than Ward who was known as featherfisted before Kov tko.
Rehydration clause limited for both at 185 lbs. Canelo probably weighed every bit of that on fight night ... like Kovalev.

The clause was for the morning of the fight,Kov was allowed to rehydrate freely afterwards & the fight took place past midnight. So Canelo was likely outweighed by 15 lbs & he still kod kov.

I would take Ward, Ward is bigger longer and would have a great game plan. Hell he might dominate Canelo.

Canelo has been fighting stiffs above 160. Ward ain't no stiff. Canelo is short.

15 extra lbs of hydration in 12 - 13 hours ... right. Try that sometime.

When you're Kovalevs size & you already weigh 185 morning of the fight, its very likely he gained 10-15 lbs as the fight took place several hrs late(as every fighter whos kovs size). (& Canelo was maxed out already as hed just be fat & slow if he gained more)

Even though Kovalev beat Yarde, he took a lot of punishment in that fight. Yarde landed more punches on him than anyone else in his career according to the punch stats. Kov only had like 8 or 9 weeks between Yarde and Canelo, no recovery time between camps, so he wasn't fully recovered and went into the fight around 60%, maybe 70% at best I'd guess.

He even said afterwards that he asked to delay it so he could have more time to recover from his last fight but Canelo said it was now or never. I think Canelo would have still probably beaten a 100% Kovalev but very unlikely he would have knocked him out and it would have probably been a close, controversial decision.
