He is 35 years old and from Japan. I'm sorry but Japanese fighters aren't really that proven at middleweight so there was some hype behind him a couple years back when people wanted him to face GGG, but I never rated him and still do not now.
The funniest part of the whole Murata hype saga was that after Rob "Honestly, who the f_ck is this guy" Brant battered him, people had no choice but to then rate Brant as a 'contender'* to keep consistency with the whole "Murata is a really good opponent and unified/lineal champion material.
The sad truth is that the belt Murata is holding is like those gold coins with chocolate in them, it was a vacant title and has been passed around like a hot potato between various random 7-11 workers. Anywho no disrespect they are all pros, but there's a pretty big gap between GGG, Canelo, Jermall, Jacobs, Derevyanchenko etc. and Rod Brant and Yoshimaru Mu****uki or whatever their names are.
(and of course you could add Andrade and BJS to the list of names superior to Brett and Mu****uji)
*won WBA belt
