I like Benavidez as a fighter, but boxing must not be his main priority. He lost his title for coke, and then again for missing weight. He needs to look in the mirror and admit he is to blame for missing out on a huge payday. It may not come again.

Smith, Plant, Canelo and a multitude of fighters were always in the gym last year through out the pandemic keeping in shape and keeping busy. There's a ton of pictures on social media of these guys training through out last year, and the Canelo vs Plant, vs Smith were fights that promoters were trying to put together all of last year. But when it comes to signing a contract, everyone wants to say these guys had Short notice. Give me a break, these dudes were already training, already knew Canelo was looking for an opponent, it's not short notice, that's the excuse fighters and some fans want to use, and if it was so called " Short notice" for Plant and Smith, if that's the excuse you want to use, it's also short notice for Canelo as well, it's a two way street, not one way. I'll believe Plant when he signs the contract for September if Canelo gets passed his next two fights.

Canelo only needed to fight BJS which then later vacated to Andrade at mw to become unified,Charlo was 2ndary paper champ at the time.(he's fighting Saunders next anyways)(& even if he faced Andrade instead,do you think he wins?)

If Plant steps into that ring with Canelo without fighting Benevidez. He’s going to get swept on the cards, or swept off the floor.

He’s very clearly not sharp enough or drilled enough to fight a guy on Canelo’s level.

Why is this dude acting as if the Benavidez fight wouldn't be a big fight? While I agree Benavidez messed up the opportunity for the fight to be for a unification, it's still one of the biggest and best fights in the division. He's using it as an excuse to duck Benavidez. Just fight the best, the only reason he has for sitting and waiting on Canelo is because he doesn't want to take the risk of losing

I’m still awaiting an explanation to my query every time someone poses this argument. So here we go again.....

What promoter is going to risk millions securing this fight on a boxer that has shown not to be a true professional? He pissed hot gets stripped. He comes in overweight on the scales(big time overweight) gets stripped again. What boxer or promoter is going to waste money on an undisciplined fighter like this?

I agree.....plant doesn't deserve a shot at Canelo quite honestly.....id rather him fight and lose to someone who could actually give canelo a decent scrap.

I really don’t get half the comments on here. It’s money, just money. Plain and simple. Plant isn’t going to fight anyone before Canelo now as he’s not going to risk a multi million dollar payday. That’s it. He’s not scared of anyone. Canelo isn’t interested in beterbiev as canelo is small for a super middle and only went up to light heavy to grab a belt from a past it Kovalev. Plant and Benadvidez will both give Canelo issues, firstly because both are a good 4 inches taller and have at least a couple of inches reach advantage. Plant also has quicker feet so will be able to keep it at range for most of the fight. Benavidez will bring more power to the table than Canelo has faced before too and Canelo knows it which is why his name has barely been mentioned by him even when he did have his belt. However Benavidez is young and doesn’t look like he’s going to lose any time soon so his time will come. The longer Canelo leaves it the less to his advantage it is - the opposite of what he did to Golovkin.
