Canelo now vs Prime Calzaghe

Joe Calzaghe would put a similar beating on Alvarez as he did against Jeff Lacey.
People need to understand that Canelo Alvarez is not a all-time great middleweight 'There is no way, Alvarez would survive in the middle-weight to Light Heavyweight divisions during the 90's and early 2000's etc'.
Alvarez does not have the punching power, stamina or gears to beat those guys in my opinion.
Note: Alvarez is a great fighter in today's era, but I honestly think the landscape has distorted his abilities 'Alvarez has very few gears, and his stamina is good but nothing great'.Last edited by PRINCEKOOL; 01-31-2021, 07:11 PM.Comment

I bet against Calzaghe to many times.l, not again though. He’d whip Canelo.
He may punch like a girl but it’s very effective.Comment

They were more past prime than Calzaghe was when those fights took place. So you think the 2003 version of Calzaghe getting dropped hard by Byron Mitchell beats Canelo? Or is prime Calzaghe the one getting a gift over Robin Reid?
Could you imagine Canelo going the distance with a guy like Charles Brewer?
But does it matter? no.Comment

Calzaghe all the way.
He slaps but he slaps hard.
Volume is crazy with cardio to match.
Canelo has faster combinations but he doesnt have the engine and the gas to match Calzaghe who is also used to fighting bigger fighters.Comment

No clue what others are talking about. Canelo wins it pretty handily...9-3 or 8-4 with 1 KD.
Joe looked sharp against 38 year old RJJ and 39 year old BHop (that fight was basically a draw).
People keep whining about work rates...yet Canelo EXCELS against high workrate fighters. If Canelo could deal with GGG workrate he could def deal with Calzaghe. GGG at least had power behind his shots but Calzaghe not so much...meaning Canelo would be more willing to trade a punch for a counter. And what punch did BHop hit Calzaghe with that stunned Joe? That's right...a mid-flurry counter punch. Canelo would be doing that a lot.
