Who would win in a fight between Canelo vs Joe Calzaghe at 168?

I'd take Canelo. Calz was a very good fighter, I just think Canelo is more proven, harder to hit, and he has the judges.

That's funny. I was thinking about Joe the whole time I was watching (half bored) Caleb vs Caleb last night. Just fantasizing about Joe vs Canelo is more interesting. Joe's volume could be so overwhelming, but Canelo's defense at this point is superb. They both have great chins. My heart says Joe because I can't envision Canelo dealing with the work rate or landing much meaningful in the second half of the fight (Joe had a tendency to get clipped early, but always adjusted) Yeah, Joe by a decision.

Calzaghe in a good fight, likely split decision!

I think Canelo will put him down twice in the fight with his sharp counters in between Joe’s combos!

It’ll be such an aesthetically pleasing fight that it would also be demands for a rematch!

I have Calzaghe 7-5, in a pretty close fight. Calzaghe could throw near 100 punches a round all fight. In his prime we'd have to factor his hands would also be in better condition and that would mean he wouldn't be throwing as many "slapping" punches that he did in his later fights. He'd also use his size advantage much better than the likes of Smith, Jacobs and Kovalev.

Canelo would use his head movement and defence to neutralise most of what come his way but a significant number would get through due to the volume. Canelo wouldn't throw as many but would probably have a higher connect percentage. I don't think either has the power to KO the other - Canelo has an ATG chin and though Calzaghe had been dropped a few times he had good powers of recovery and I just don't see Canelo finding "that KO punch" against Calzaghe. I think one judge will see Canelo's more efficient work as being deserving of the nod but the two others see it as Calzaghe's fight. SD but should probably be a UD.

Calzaghe was a rare breed with regards to volume punchers - he had the variety, speed, the all-round skills, an amazing engine and a solid enough chin to hang in the pocket and go to war.

No clue what others are talking about. Canelo wins it pretty handily...9-3 or 8-4 with 1 KD.

Joe looked sharp against 38 year old RJJ and 39 year old BHop (that fight was basically a draw).

People keep whining about work rates...yet Canelo EXCELS against high workrate fighters. If Canelo could deal with GGG workrate he could def deal with Calzaghe. GGG at least had power behind his shots but Calzaghe not so much...meaning Canelo would be more willing to trade a punch for a counter. And what punch did BHop hit Calzaghe with that stunned Joe? That's right...a mid-flurry counter punch. Canelo would be doing that a lot.

              Canelo wide UD

Probably Calzaghe, dont think either would stop the other but Calzaghe is bigger, has a reach advantage and in his prime had faster hands and a much higher punch output, he would outwork Canelo.
