You think Jamal James deserves a shot more than Thurman? James already lost a UD to Ugas while Thurman lost a SD to Pacquiao.

Thurman was too inactive when was champ because of injuries and surgeries. But after he lost his belt and his undefeated record to Pacquiao, and was denied a rematch, it made sense for him to use the pandemic to take this long break to get right because he wouldn't have the boxing world criticizing him for holding up belts and the division.

The timing works out. Thurman can return in time to fight Ugas, and if he can beat Ugas after this long lay off & injury & surgery, then we can have Thurman-Spence instead of pointless retreads like Spence-Porter 2 or Thurman-Porter 2 or Thurman-Garcia 2.

      No.

The WBA Champion is the "real" champion in a division unless there is a Super Champion. The Regular title is inferior to the WBA title. The Super title is a special designation you can usually only get by defeating the active Super champion, defending the WBA title 5 times successfully or by unifying with a WBC, WBO, or IBF champion.

They only crown a Regular champion if there is a Super champion, and vice versa. If there is only one WBA champion they are simply recognized as WBA champion, and they will only recognize a Regular champion when the WBA champion earns Super status.

Or cuz Manny acting like he ain't gonna defend it.... He mentioned Spence 1 time then nothing but circus fights after.

147 suppose to wait for him to make up his mind?

          NO, no and no.

Doing Thurman/Ugas rewards Thurman for not showing up against Manny.

It also is a slap in the face to Crawford who would then have to wait even longer beyond his (hopeful) exit from Top Rank.

If Crawford's contract expires in October that means AT BEST you're talking two, possibly three, fights for him before he even gets a smell at a shot with Spence.

Spence has mandatories he has to deal with - Porter being one of them, but Porter has been willing to not call it in because he wants to fight Crawford. Whose promoter isn't willing to pay for.

But Spence also has Abdukakarov (IBF) waiting in the wings, and IBF of the orgs is the most aggressive about mandatories.

What's in the BEST interest of everyone is this order:

          - Spence fights Ugas for unification

          - If Spence wins you do immediately do Crawford/Spence - now you can convince Crawford/BoMac/Arum to accept B-Side and financially make that work just like Fury/Joshua. Hell, put it as co-main if you have to and just bring Fox in on the broadcast share

          - If Ugas upsets Spence, you do a Porter/Ugas rematch (Porter is WBC mandatory) - winner fights Crawford for unification

          - Whoever ends up with all the belts, assuming they stay at 147, then deals with cleanup: Vergil Ortiz (WBA), Abdukakarov (IBF) and Keef. Even Manny if he decides to cash in his "recess".

I thought so. So the WBA didn't do anything out of the ordinary.

Yes. James has fought his way into a shot. Thurman has been as inactive as Pacquiao and he lost.

I'd rather see Thurman vs Ugas but Thurman hasn't fought since Pac. He can't skip over James

Suggested this in another thread as well but I also get a lot of fans are just ready for unification and I agree with that as well. Either move is OK with me Spence vs Ugas or Ugas vs Thurman for the shot at Spence in a Unification. I'm sure Ugas wants the Payday for himself as well so he probably just goes straight to Spence Jr.

WBA Recent Ranking Updates has Thurman #12 anyway so Ugas doesn't have to fight Thurman at all
