I think that you and the other fellow you're arguing with are both completely deluded. Any REAL MMA fighter will tell you it doesn't work in the streets. The possibility for offense is completely outweighed by the inability to truly defend against attacks, especially if your primary defense is reliant on control. Boxing is the more realistic of the two to be successful in a street fight. Im telling you this from personal experience, actually seeing the fight, being involved in multiple fights, and discussing with as well as sparring with MMA fighters. Watched as an MMA fighter slumped and admitted it wouldn't work in the streets after sparring with a friend of mine. Not to mention everyone who is being objective, including MMA fighters themselves have admitted that training for boxing is a much more difficult discipline.

Having said that, any fully trained person, in any combat will always be far more dangerous than the average man who may not have any training what so ever. When it comes to weapons, other than projectiles, boxing is also the better of the two. Distance and movement, long range attack and proper punching. Unless your MMA fighter is specially trained in disarming, like the MMA fighter who got stabbed in the head in NY, well they'll get stabbed in the head.

As far as the sports, a boxer will always be better positioned to win in MMA, why? Because they will always have a punchers chance, they will always be the superior boxer, with the superior punch, and would be dangerous with even a minimal take down defense. Where as for an MMA fighter boxing removes the vast majority of that fighters discipline, or in this case disciplines. The MMA fighter would have to become completely proficient at a single discipline including a standing defense and the stamina to maintain. Most MMA fighters can't punch, very bad technique through out UFC even with the best strikers. Comparatively a boxer doesn't have to learn how to kick properly in MMA because punching is allowed.

Sorry this was long winded, but the guy you were arguing is crazy to think that an MMA fighter has no chance in a street fight. But he does have a point when it come to the fact that a street fight isn't planned, the first punch is often not a sucker punch, its the first punch, and that punch is not agreed upon. If your MMA fighter is in an argument, he could get the schit beaten out of him before he finished his sentence. But, that same sentiment goes for everyone lol which is why I think you both are nuts.

Talking trash about McGreggor yet he fought him, Typical Floyd. By the way, you were the most boring, cherrypicking and protected fighter, whose last 2 fights were against Berto who was done at the time and Mc Gregor....

No but being in their prime makes them able to learn some defence and be at their devastating best as far as speed power and sharpness.

Tell me do you think a 40+ retired MMA guy could give say todays Canelo 25lbs in weight and beat him ? That would be something like retired Connor at 40+ beating todays Canelo.
