On a family level, no family wants a family member to die. We all want our old assed relatives to live forever (regardless of their inability to take care of themselves).

On a societal level, imho, massive amounts of old people dying should not shut down a city, much less the world.
Well there's always gonna be a balance to be struck isn't there?

Thing is it's even a broader problem than that, it's not just the folk who just die and need disposing of, it's all those sick people who might need caring for for weeks and months - or longer if they get chronic conditions which may far outnumber the deaths... I guess there's also the misery and suffering such illness causes if we rate that important, though of course being broke cos your work shut down also ain't much fun either... Point being more infections also mean more costs - huge costs if critical care is required - to society even if it is mainly old and middle aged people who are actually dying.

So there's definitely plenty of reason to take some precautions even if you figure the world ain't gonna miss a few old folk, it's just how far you go with it.

I know people look at me as being an insensitive ahole. I have elderly and sickly folks in my life. When they go, they go. No amount of tears, wishing, masks, fist shaking, Red K's, vax will change that.

      So what to do.....

Go on with life and make the best of it.

True enough, and I hope my kids let me go without a fuss when the time comes... in fact I ain't intending to leave it up to them. But for the time being I'm willing to put up with the mild discomfort of wearing a mask and keeping my distance at the supermarket. Ain't a biggie though I sympathise with those who have been hit harder financially than myself.

          ?

Not the best comparison but even in the animal kingdom, the weak are left behind. Old and sickly are not sent out to fight wars. They are actually a bigger burden financially to society.

We are locked in the constraints of emotions instead of logic. Hallmark, K's ***elers, funeral home owners make billions off of those emotions.

          In any event,
Athletes getting COVID is not newsworthy.

old people and people with underlying illness i would presume is the answer to that one

u can let them all die earlier and do a a big kill off of the weak but whatever gov did that may never ever get back into power again

plus even with minor spread of this thing hospitals fill up with the dying, u would have to stop treating them too i would presume, not all health care systems are as good as for example the US system who can manage it seems just about with this level

As cruel as this may sound, maybe not waste time and supplies on people who are doomed ?

Doomed people are struggling to stay alive and would be unable to without a ton of help.

I have another good 30 years and there's nothing COVID can do about it

                    Fulton beat COVID and Leo.

One of them wasn't a surprise
