Plant is right here. Callum Smith wasted everyone's time. He had no proper step-up fights and just went in over his head against the best - Canelo. Anyone with half a brain knew it was just about whether Canelo would stop him or not. The result was never in doubt.

Problem is - only Smith has learnt something here. There will be some other fighter who comes along with an average resume claiming he can beat Canelo too and all his fans will believe it - then we have to see the same thing again.

There should be a rule - that you can only fight the elite guys if you earned it through results

I should've added the qualifier that in unification fights nobody gets those odds(unless it's like Lemuixe vs Ggg or wade)

Canelo is similar to Floyd in the sense that fighters from outside the ring see holes and things they'd do to nullify what they do great-- totally different story when you get in the ring with them. Call me crazy, but i think even at this level, canelo improves with every fight. He can adjust to any style.

Also, i hate when peolle talk about "Smith only had a 5 week camp" SO DID CANELO!! Difference is, Canelo is a full time boxer and stays in the gym even when there's no fight booked.

No proper step up fights? This dude mowed over everyone in the SM tournament, he was the#1 at the weight, just because he looked ordinary against Canelo doesn't mean he's not good, it only speaks to Canelo's skill, sounds like just hating on your part. Who the hell has Plant beat that makes you think he's going to beat Canelo? Plant went 12 rounds against some C level fighter last year and is fighting Traux, who is nothing special. Hate to break it to you but both Canelo and Benavides would whoop Plant. If Plant fights Canelo, I'm going to tell you exactly how it's going to play out, Plant will fight defensive, never engage, never open up, will be content going 12 against Canelo so then he can claim he got robbed with no merit. Plant is just looking for a payday and nothing else.

First up, let's stop with this "4-5weeks to train . . . " BS. Smith and Gallagher had been preparing for canelo all year. That was the only fight they were looking for.

However, I would really like to see Plant in against Canelo. He's definitely talking a good fight so let's see him fight it.

It sounds like this is a very likely possibility this year if Canelo holds up what he says, which is likely considering his track record of saying what he'll do in advance.

I see him fighting BJS in May, beating him, then fighting Plant in September,Canelo is in his groove atm & looks like hes trying to capitalise on it by collecting as many champ scalps as possible.

What’s with all the “you know” interviews lately?

Hearn is one of the worst and there are more out there, can nobody speak English anymore?

Plant has a first class team and doesn’t have to take fights on 5 weeks notice. And no network wants to go half ****ed on a PPV. Especially a network paying Canelo top dollar.

You do realize he just signed to fight on less notice right?

Lara, Trout, Mayweather, and to a lesser extent Jacobs all had success boxing Canelo, no reason to think the fleet footed and quick handed Plant won’t do the same. And one thing about plant, he is deceptively heavy handed much in the same way Terry Norris was....perhaps with plant it’s a matter of pin point accuracy mixed with speed but his counters that drop and hurt fighters come out of nowhere. Plant is the toughest champion for Canelo at SuperMiddle
I hear you! I still can't get out of my mind the last few rounds vs Uzi. I'd still like to see Plant against a top flight opponent before he steps into a Canelo fight. Or maybe, Plant is already ready for a Canelo.
