But Lomachenko/Lopez was not close to that level. And putting a rematch clause in the contract when you have the leverage to do so is NOT being a diva at all. That is just boxing business 101.
Absolutely. Especially with the politics of boxing. Loma lost legitimately lost that fight but politics is always a factor.

Well, the difference is that Canelo is the A side so even if GGG wanted one, doesn't necessarily mean he could have gotten one.

In the case of Lomachenko/Lopez, Lomachenko was the A side and he told his manager to take it out of the contract. Just a terrible decision.

You say he had the leverage to do so but Loma wasn't to know if Lopez would accept it or not? Lopez was already playing hardball asking for more money. People were thinking he didn't really want the fight was looking for a way to avoid it. Loma just wanted to make the fight happen which is good for the fans.

This shows just how the psychology of boxing is as powerful as the physical.

I nearly facepalmed when I heard him say that.

Then he should have told Canelo there is no fight. Golovkin gave in too easily. I said the exact same thing when it was first reported there was no rematch clause in the first fight. Golovkin had lots of leverage at that time but he wanted the fight and the money so he gave in.

Whether he thought he needed it or not, there was no reason to remove it. His management dropped the ball there.
